We were there in early December. The palace is wonderful and you feel like moved into past. We were lucky and were given better room, I guess suite. It was really big room with all decorations like in 19th century but plus modern facilities. I can't say that anybody was unfriendly even in the restaurant but the food is really bad. We stayed there for one night and were absolutely amazed by the palace and the territory around.

Do you like to run around for every little thing on a holiday. Have the meals NOT served to your room, so you can laze around? Have no swings for small kids to play? Like food, which is tasteless? If the answer to all these is Yes, you will love the Laxmi Vilas Palace.

Although a beautiful property, the food is miserable and the chef is rude! Even the breakfast, where usually u cant go wrong, was terrible.
The website mentions about lot of facilities which are not available.
The resort asked us to pay extra (which was not billed) so they would let us consume our own alcohol and light a bonfire.

A very poor experience considering we had gone on this trip to relax. Bad food, bad hospitality!
Totally a let down!

Returned to visit the Bird Sanctuary again. The hotel has two different sections, one an old and well maintained Palace and the other a new palace like building decorated exquisitely used as the Restaurant.

Thought we might be welcomed back after having stayed their earlier this year, but Reception was very unfriendly and barked instructions at us. The rooms wer not the ones used earlier, but much less comfortable ones. Booking had been done directly so they knew this was a revisit.

Restaurant food is limited and aimed at tour parties passing though for the day. Service there is good.

Nevertheless on balance, having looked at, and had a tea at The Bagh, Laxmi Vilas is still the best place in Bharatpur.

Room Tip: Try 105 the Maharajah's old room

Have you ever felt like a “second rated citizen” in your own country?? I just recently got to experience this!!! I was travelling with my family to Bharatpur, Rajasthan and made reservations at the Laxmi Vilas Palace. Looking forward to our stay we checked in and were mesmerised with the beauty of the property. But this feeling didn’t last long. The property seems to be catering only to the foreigners. The difference is glaring almost from the moment you set foot on the property, while the foreigners are given a very warm and a royal welcome the Indians on the other hand are treated like “second class” citizens. This ordeal continues when you step into their restaurant where their waiters ignore you royally while being at the beck and call of the foreigners. The food is highly over priced; interestingly the foreigners are charged “less” in comparison to the Indian customers for the services provided. As for the “friendly management” they blissfully forget about you as soon as they have dumped you in one of their “highly overrated rooms”. Dump this property if you are looking for a pleasant and comfortable stay at Bharatpur. Making Agra your base would be more sensible.

Good massage, excellent food and perfect atmosphere give a pleasent informal start to the Indian trip! Heritage hotel at its best and ecofriendly!

nice hotel, ok food. we were on MAP. Due to less occupancy we were offered A-la-karte. But the food taste was ok. Somehow during my this trip we found that where ever we took tomato soup, it didn't taste like tomato, more of water+cornflour+color. I myself cook so i know how tomato soup tastes.
