We spent 7 nights at Moonlight Bay and enjoyed every minute. We stayed in a river view bungalow which had everything we could need and was very clean and comfortable. The resort itself is quiet and very well kept making for a relaxing holiday. The staff are friendly and helpful and the menu at the restaurant is extensive and we found the food to be really good. This is the ideal location for a relaxing break and if you wanted to venture out for something more lively in the evening there are numerous bars and restaurants set out along the nearest beach which is about a 10-15 minute walk away from the resort.

We have just stayed at this hotel for four nights initially not off to a good start. We booked one of the river view rooms however the river is more or less stagnant water and attracts lots of insects and i would recommend avoiding these rooms. after going to use the shower the first morning we found at least 10 cockroaches, thinking this was a one off we sorted the problem ourselves until returning later on in the day to find they had multiplied! To give the staff their due when informed the cleaned and sprayed the area however later in the day the problem returned. At this point we went to advise the staff again and to see if we could move, without us having to request a move they did this straight away and we were moved to the honeymoon suite which was excellent.
Staff are friendly and helpful, food is very nice, including breakfast. Sandy beach is a good 15min walk which is tiresome in the heat but a shuttle bus is provided once a day. Would recommend a trip kayaking and to see monkeys.

The hotel has its positives, but in the end, our stay was ruined by bedbugs.

On the fourth night of a five night booked stay, I woke up with over 40 bites all over my arms and legs. Luckily my wife was spared but it was a horrid experience. The manager assured us that this had never happened before, and seemed appropriately concerned. She offered to put us in a different room for the last night and also said she'd be putting anti-insect powder on the mattress. The lack of bites the first few days could mean that it was another guest who had brought in the bugs, and so while we were upset, we weren't completely irate. But we still left, unhappy and paranoid that we were now infested.

After leaving, we found out via on another online site that other guests have had bedbug problems here before. Perhaps the manager didn't know the history, but I'm more inclined to think that she was just trying to sweep it under the rug. I'd be very curious to hear from other travelers whether they also experience bedbug problems (circa Dec 2011).

Everything else is overshadowed by the bedbugs, but in an attempt to be fair, let me say the location is beautiful and it's quiet and peaceful, especially as the rest of the island develops apace. This means you don't have as much easy choice of restaurant / activity as you do elsewhere on the island, but you are away from it all. The individual villas are set in a way that makes you feel like you have privacy, even if the hotel is full. Getting around isn't a problem although the main taxi driver outside was probably the most dishonest driver on the island. Restaurant is tasty and reasonable especially considering they have a captive audience.

Rooms are simple but passable. Overpriced but it was the high season. Wifi away from the front desk didn't work for the first three days of our stay, and the television was snowy and poor, but you don't come to Ko Lanta for those things...

However, I also doubt you come for bedbugs either, so be very wary.

Pros:
Beautiful setting
Secluded
Good, reasonable restaurant

Cons:
Bedbugs
Lumpy and old mattress
Erratic wifi/television

Great hotel on a beautiful island. We stayed in a river view bungalow which was very well equipped, big comfy bed, TV, fridge, cupboard space etc. as well as a brolly, flip flops and a beach bag! The room was really secure and nice and quiet in the evenings.

The pool and small beach areas were really well looked after and again very quiet and peaceful. The bar area was so amazing to sit and watch the sunset- lovely cocktails and massive beanbags to relax on!

We had a good meal in the restaurant- well presented and tasty. Although probably the most expensive meal I've had in Thailand, I guess the good surroundings make up for that a bit.

We do enjoy the peace and quiet, but wanted a bit more of an explore we popped out to hire a motorbike for a couple of days to explore the beaches and restaurants. There was a hire place about a 10 mins walk out of the main entrance to the right (very cheap as well!).

Klong Nin beach, the closest beach, has a few great bars and restaurants which have a chilled and relaxed atmosphere day and night. White Rock bar was good and Nick the bar man was really helpful recommending some great places (nicks restaurant and a great French pizza place both on the beach). Reggaes on the beach was also a great bar.

We found that Klong Nin was the best beach on the whole island and would defo suggest a morning or afternoon there if you fancy getting away from the hotel.

The staff were great at the hotel - very friendly and polite. We enjoyed a couple of treatments at the spa which were very good also.

Great island and great hotel!

Room Tip: Although we enjoyed the river view room, it looked like the sea view rooms were massive and had the...

We stayed almost 10 days in Moonlight end of October/ beginning of November and enjoyed a lot our time there. The hotel is just the perfect spot if you look for something romantic to relax and enjoy your life!
Many of the other hotel guests are couples and honeymooners, but kids are welcome as well and they offer toys at the pool. The pool is rather small. Swimming in the sea is not ideal in Moonlight as there are too many rocks in the sea. Nice beaches are close by (about 10 minutes drive with the scooter).
They have one of the best restaurants on the island ("Chomtalay") with great food of good quality (both western and Thai cuisine). Their "Rock Bar" is one of the nicest bars I have ever been to: it has a big terrace and chill-out area including an amazing sea views.

The staff is incredibly friendly and cooperative, especially the ladies working at the reception and Ken, who made us feeling very welcome and at home.

The rooms are very well equipped (e.g. including refrigerator, air condition, water boiler,...), clean and offer everything you need. We found the beds extremely comfortable.
The only thing which annoyed us very much are the roosters that live on grounds of the hotel. They shouted around five/ sixi every morning and woke guests up. That's not what you want at all during your holiday!

They rent scooters and they do have a library there which covers mainly English and Swedish Books. Free internet access and wifi is available in the restaurant, bar and lobby surroundings but doesn't work in the rooms (or in most of the rooms).

They do also have a SPA - but I would not recommend going there. It is incredibly expensive - a standard massage costs more than double the price compared to outside offers.
Same with the plenty activities they do offer (e.g. yoga, cooking school,...): those ones are ways too expensive.

Moonlight is situated in the middle of the island at the western coast. It is a good starting point for trips on the island. The next "village" where you'll find the majority of other hotels and restaurants is a 15-20 minutes walk away.

They offer pick-up service, e.g. from the pier where the ferry arrives. But again this one is ways more expensive than other taxi services.

We can definitely recommend going there. Check out Agoda, you might have a good chance to get a great deal there which is even better than the rates they offer directly at the hotel.

Room Tip: "River View"-Cottages is the cheapest category, but I wouldn't recommend them as they...

the hotel is fine, but some rooms are on the hillside and you have to climb many steps. the pool is very small and the beach is very rocky. a lovely beach ten minutes away with regular transport. but if you like to eat out go to 36 steak house, lovely food and service. it is only a small local place but ten star. walk out onto the road turn right and walk about ten minutes, it is on your right hand side.

Moonlight Bay Exotic Resort is simply one of the best places you will ever stay! We had originally booked 3 nights in Bangkok, then 8 nights in Moonlight Bay. With travel advise close to our time of leaving, against staying in Bangkok due to the flooding, we opted to stay extra in Koh Lanta, staying 11 nights at Moonlight Bay. This was a last minute change of plan, however the email communication from Moonlight Bay regarding this was excellent, with quick response and clear communication, helping us extend our stay and re-arranging our transfers. So impressions of the resort prior to arrival were very good.

The transfer service through Moonlight Bay from Krabi airport is well worth booking. Reasonable price, a lovely driver and the journey itself is a lovely look at the Krabi province.

On arriving at Moonlight Bay, we were met by the lovely reception staff (Wan and Oil), who showed us to our room. We booked the Seaview Room which was amazing. Air conditioned, spacious room, comfy bed, plenty storage, bathroom with shower and of course the gorgeous balcony which overlooked the Andaman Sea and gave us a great view of the beautiful sunsets. If you can spend a little extra, the Seaview rooms are definitely worth it.

The Hotel reception assisted us to book all excursions (Kho Phi Phi, Koh Rok snorkelling and Kayaking in the Mangroves is a must, plus if you'd like to learn a little Ukelele you can book a 1 hour session with the resident Musician called Song, who is a great teacher and will also provide music in the 'Rocky Bar' during the evenings). All excursions well worth the price (about 1500 bhatt per person).

The hotel restaurant is second to none. We ate there 10 nights out of 11, mostly in the evening from the 'specials' board, which Ken, the restaurant manager/chef took great pride in. Ken would speak to us every night and tell us how each dish was made and make recommendations. I have never tasted food so fresh and lovingly prepared in all my life. Ken is a man who has a great passion for what he does and it really shows in the food he makes. Thanks Ken.

The restaurant staff were brilliant too, very attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. Many thanks to Fon, Zine, Luay, Eat, Jaeb and all the others who looked after us, sorry if I've not got everyones names!

The location and setting of the restaurant is lovely. Tables set by the sea and under the Mango trees are lovely, where you can watch the sunset and have hours of fun watching all the sand crabs that come out after dark. Tables are also set by the pool and under the roof of the restaurant, if it rains or looks like there could be a sudden downpour, this is a good option.

Behind the restaurant is the 'Rocky Bar', well named as it's set on the rocky end of the beach and is a great place to relax on the cushions scattered on the decking and take in the wonderful sunsets or just listen to the waves crashing. A small bar with a good selection run again by lovely staff.

The hotel Spa was somewhere we spent some time in almost daily. The spa is run by Aod, Coco and Miew, who are all so lovely and helpful. From Thai massage, full body scrubs, foot massage, reflexology, we loved all the treatments and would thoroughly recommend using the Spa. Treatments are not just for ladies but men also. An amazing place to relax after spending the day snorkeling, exploring the Island or just sunbathing. Also thanks to Aod, Coco and Miew for teaching me a little of the Thai language every day. I'll miss that!

Moonlight Bay is a fantastic place to relax, just as the island of Koh Lanta is advertised. Very chilled out, so if you're looking for lots of nightlife or parties every night you should probably go to Phuket. Moonlight Bay Resort is set on a hilly location leading down to the sea, so there are many steps to some of the rooms and back up to reception, which may not be ideal for anyone with walking difficulties.

There is lots of wildlife around the place to watch which we also loved, sea eagles, lizards, ghekko's, sand crabs, big fish in the river, we even saw a couple of monkeys crossing the road, south of the hotel towards Old Lanta Town.

Moonlight Bay is situated on Klong Nin beach which is nearer the Southern end of the island. There is a Seven Eleven shop, a 5 minute walk south of the hotel and a few other places near 7-11 for souvenirs/shops/restaurants etc.

For a bigger selection of shops/restaurants etc, take a Tuk Tuk to Klong Kong beach which is 2 km north from Moonlight Bay, or a taxi to Ban Saladan in the North or Old Lanta Town on the East of the Island.

I cannot recommend Moonlight Bay enough and hope to return soon, you will not regret staying here!! Thanks again to everyone working there who made our stay just perfect.

Elaine and Angela,
Scotland.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra for the Seaview rooms, they're well worth it.
