Owner description: Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

There is nothing really to see but a lot of turist-shops. I had hoped for true thai-living areas.

Road in to Lanta Old Town on a moped....lots of old buildings which are on stilts in to the torquiose sea. A few souvenir shops and restaurants. Not loads going on but definitely worth a stop if you're driving through.

Well.. Its old houses down a road. Its all kept for the tourists. I went there on my rented motorbike as part of an island round trip. So we just had a short drive through. I expect you would be very dissapointed if you actually paid the big bucks for a tuk-tuk to take you here and back.. Cause its nothing but little shops selling the same tourist-"crap".. Have a look at the buildings and be glad you don't have to live there.

nice little restaurants, nice people, cute little town to wander through on your afternoon in lanta. I wouldnt pay cab fare but youll probably have a rented scooter. Get gas before you get there, its more expensive on the more remote parts of lanta even tho they are only 2km more remote.

We, a family of four with two kids (8&11), took a TukTuk to Old Town from our resort at Klong Dao beach. The trip took about 30-40 minutes and was a nice, slow ride, where we had time to view the senenery, people and houses that passed by.

Old Town itself is very small, and it takes not more than 30 minutes to see it all. There are a few shops, a few restaurants and a pier. Not so much more. We walked around for a while and had lunch there. Then we took the TukTuk back.

It was nice to have seen it. But you will not miss much if you skip it. I guess it depends how long time you stay in Koh Lanta, if you think it is wortwile to go there or not.
