Phi Phi Paradise Pearl Resort
Ranked #6 of 38 Hotels in Ko Phi Phi Don
Reviewed 10 January 2011

Our experience was a 5 though the rooms were probably closer to a 3. Make sure you look at the resort map before you book. Not all rooms are the same. We stayed in P3 and we were just steps from the beach and we have incredible views of the water from our porch. Some rooms are way off the beach and don't have much of a view.

Highlights:
- there is a spa right off of the beach. $10 for a one hour massage. Book in advance because it gets crowded in the late afternoon.
- great location. The beach is nice and not too crowded. It wasn't too hard to get a beach chair.
- Service was great. Some of the reviews complain about the service but we thought it was very good. People were super friendly and helpful. If you want Four Seasons level of service don't go to Phi Phi Island.
- Food at restaurant that is beachside was very good.

Lowlight
- bathroom is very rudimentary. You will not be doing any lingering in the bathroom.

Pearl Resort is a great place to stay on Phi Phi. We walked down the beach and the other resorts didn't look anywhere as nice as Pearl. The Viking Resort is a short walk away and it is a very quaint place to have lunch and give you a break from having all your meals at the Pearl.

We were pleasantly surprised at this hotel. A) find the Pearl representative when you get to the pier - don't pay for a long boat. The transfer is free. B) The location and hotel are great, but don't stay in the S rooms. There is mold and you are breathing it in. These rooms are likely never dried out and there is mold in the walls and on the curtains.
As a plus, we were allowed to move to another type of room at the same rate and the change made all of the difference.
You have access to a great hotel restaurant for meals, a wonderful, beautiful beach and lots of other places to eat/drink down the beach. You're away from the crazyness of Phi Phi town, but can easily walk there along a path if you want to go shopping or to the bars.

We stayed here last week for a week and had an amazing trip. We loved the beach and location and that it was good value for money. The rooms were ok, a bit tired and dated looking and as other have mentioned in reviews the bathrooms were a bit damp, smelly with bad water. But it was part of the experience.
Fall out of your bungalow and you are in the most beautiful spot, water amazing. The food was ok, nothing special at all. Stick to Thai and what ever you do dont eat a pizza!! Revolting doesnt begin to describe. The Thai food was ok though.
There is a great bar along the beach, fun, dancing, fire shows and happy staff. This is the one major complaint I have about Paradise Pearl. The staff were miserable. No charm, no smiles, no fun!! They were not rude as such but just looked like they hated serving the customers. It got to the point that we would just laugh and watch other people do the same at other tables when interacting with them. The owners need to address this. I see I am not the first to point it out.
I hope they sort this out as its such a great location and could be 100% amazing. We had a great time though and I would go back, albeit with no expectation of good service. Phi Phi and Long Beach are just paradise.

there were a few issues with our room (S6) -- there was a maybe 3-inch round hole in the ceiling, probably from a leak. and the toilet in our room is super ultra low-flow. i always worried every time i flushed that it wouldn't do its job. but 2 or 3 flushes always did the trick.

otherwise, the facilities are a-OK. we walked through the other adjacent resorts (paradise and blue sky, i think) and paradise pearl looked nicer and better-maintained than the other ones. our room was always sparkly clean. the reception desk staff were always friendly and helpful. the massage place is beautiful -- not the best thai massages i've had, but not the worst either. the longtail boat manager guy, pomsak, was really great in helping us charter our own boat for the day. he was honest in telling us that it wasn't a good day to go out snorkeling and we should try again the next day, instead of just taking our money and letting us go out on non-optimal conditions. much appreciated.

i did quite a bit of research on hotels/bungalows in phi phi and paradise pearl seems like a good value.

if you're staying here, be prepared to eat most of your meals at their restaurant. that's ok, since their restaurant is above-average. and tonsai bay is close enough, in case you need more variety in dining options.

location is awesome! if you're up for a quiet vacation, this is the place to be. and the beach is beautiful -- great view of both phi phi leh and monkey beach. some decent places to snorkel you can swim to from the beach.

i would stay here again if i were to come back to phi phi.

Stayed here a week ago because we had read in the lonely planet that long beach was a more private place to go. They were right. The beach is beautiful and clean and didn't have as many tourists as Phi Phi town.

The room we had stayed at was so far off from the pictures posted here. These were the cheapest bungalows they had (750 bhat/night) that in my opinion shouldn't be guest rooms at all. Situated in the far back of the resort, the room look like it had never been cleaned, furniture falling apart, paint chipping and roof about to cave in. There wasn't a full wall inbetween the bathroom and the actual room. Also, the water from the shower had tasted horrible and had to be pumped! I had to take a shower with 5 minute intervals, standing in the shower awkwardly soaped and no water for the tap or shower. Our room was right next to the water pump for the area so there were loud noises through the night. That wasnt too bad as we are quite heavy slepers, but our friends' room next to us had some sort of really loud generator type thing next to it (we think for electricity maybe) and they had a rough time sleeping. The worst part was that the 1 bar of light we had, attracted flying ants that would fall to our pillows as they died/got blinded/ whatever.

We checked out after 1 night (moved to the bungalows on phi phi hill). We had a late check out the next morning as we had an early snorkeling trip and though the people at the reception were nice enough to wave the late fee, the cleaning staff that came to the room while i was quickly packing and dragging the bag out showed her unhappiness with a black face and seemed to be scolding us in thai.

The food at this resort is pretty good with acceptable prices. Minus the one night I had ordered pineapple fritters and after eating one, discovered a giant fly in the bottle of honey that accompanied the fritters. They changed the bottle with no apology, though they were nice enough to give us a bottle of chocolate sauce should we be afraid of having more honey.

The thing that I enjoyed most was the thai massage (300-500bhat). They had beautiful pavaillions and good service there where the masseuse took care of covering me when she noticed I was getting mosquito bites. Coconut tea was served after, which I really enjoyed as well.

The resort is on a separate beach than the Ko Phi Phi Don center and only reachable by long boat. We loved that we could choose to go in the middle fo the fun or choose to stay in the quieter part of the are. The rooms looked very nice and our had small patio with a view of the sea - all in all about 40 meters from our bed to the water.

Service not spectacular but then again I did not come across spectacular service anywhere in Thailand. Better brush up on your sign language before you go there as that would be the international language not the usual English.

Would stay there again.

I travelled with a friend and we stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of October. I was a little bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Staff were friendly and helpful, the location on long beach cannot be beaten and the massages and massage area was amazing - we went for coconut oil massages every night - highly recommended! Food, however, was average.

I have to say though - splash out on the most expensive rooms/bungalows - we had A1 - almost right on the beach and the spot in front of the bungalow is arguably the best spot on long beach - you have your own little balcony that leads onto a patio and then directly onto the beach - AMAZING! I could not find much info about this specific bungalow on-line so thought I'd elaborate and add few photos for those of you struggling with the decision as to which room - DEFINITELY A1 or A2!!! These rooms may not be the newest in the resort - but we were there for the beach and they cannot be beaten!

Couple of other random thoughts: The walk in the dark from town to long beach however is not recommended - especially not with only the light of camera LCD screen - rather try and find a long tail boat! Next door and a short hike away is Viking Beach Resort (a little to rustic for us but gorgeous) - fantastic food - they have free taster menu every night - well worth a visit! Definitely charter a speed boat out to the islands and do as much snorkelling as you can.

We loved our time on Phi Phi!
