We stayed for 3 nights at the holiday Inn, where we had a bungalow up the hill (411). It was very comfortable, and quiet. We loved it! The resort is set in carefully landscaped gardens with individual bungalows , many on stilts and accessible by wooden walkaways. There are some flats also. Everything is very well kept and the resort is run efficiently. The staff are friendly, yet discreet and extremely helpful. They seem happy to work there! There were all types of customers there during our stay:family, newly wed and older couples, all nationality. Although there were quite a lot people staying the hotel never felt crowded.

As well as the two very nice swimming pools it was special to have such a clean beach right by the hotel with beautiful views of Bamboo and mosquito Islands. The breakfast was fine. We did not eat in the restaurant. The sunset bar up the hill (part of the hotel) is a must. There you can watch the sun go down whilst sipping a cocktail or enjoying a cool beer. You might even be treated to some singing.

For those who want to sample some island life and a less 'glamorous' environment there are two restaurants on either side of the hotel where we ate and that provide really good Thai food. One is the gypsy restaurant, the other is on the South side, up some steps with a veranda and perfect view of the sea and run by a local family. It is located on a paved road, which you can take to go to another resort and bars and which is good for jogging..

One of the features of the hotel is that it is relatively remote. For us this was a definite plus as Tonsay Bay felt overcrowded and noisy. We booked travel with the hotel from Phuket Airport where we were met by a taxi that took us to the ferry (allow at least 45 minutes as the traffic is bad). We were met at Tonsai Bay and were taken to the hotel by long tail boat , which felt quite exotic. There are two ferries a day that go all the way from the Hotel to Phuket (stopping at Tonsai Bay).

All in all a lovely stay and we would highly recommend the hotel as a place to stay in Ko Phi Phi.

Room Tip: Bungalow up the hill are very nice

We were two bestfriends traveling on a budget. We decided that we'd spend a little more for hotels we would be staying in for 2 nights. We found Holiday Inn hotel via agoda.com and got pretty good rates. Actually we had a hard time finding a place in Phi Phi bcos in some hotels we really didn't trust the reviews. Holiday Inn was a bit expensive, considering this was not really the best location since it was far from the pier.

The resort was big and lovely, we felt we owned the resort. The beach was nice. Too bad the sunset view is on the other side, they only had a viewing deck.

When I travel, I want speedy check-in, the room should be ready right away. This wasn't the case since we had to wait for another 30mins before we could finally check in to think we already arrived late. We had a very far room (Room 404) and when we got there it was the wrong key. So what a complete bummer.

The room was okay, the bathroom was kinda dark and old. The shower was just too sad, the water pressure and temperature can be improved. What we loved is that we had a sort-of walk-in closet (complete with things we might need just in case there is a tsunami.. actually i could only remember was a flashlight) tip: best to trace the path of the evacuation just in case this happens, at least you know where to go. We had front porch with a bench.

on our first night, we tried the moonlight party bbq buffet, the food was so-so, we spent so much on it and maybe we should have ordered ala carte instead. cocktails in the bar were good, not scrimping on alcohol.

going back to the room was quite a challenge since the pathways aren't well-lit, so tip: get rooms nearer to the reception area.

the next day, the hotel arranged an island tour for us which had pretty reasonable rates and our boatman was very nice, although could barely understand english. we had a nice experience touring some of the islands and a bit of snorkelling. btw, breakfast was okay... i just found the selection a bit limited.

on our second night, we decided to try the room service which took forever for some reason. apparently the operator had the rooms mixed up, from 404 to 505. it took some time for them to trace where the food was. at least the food finally came and the food was actually good, it was worth the wait.

there is internet in the reception and internet in the rooms which you have to pay: what i do no understand is that they cannot deliver your password to your room. i had to go all the way to the reception to get this piece of paper which had the internet password. i was requesting for the password to be delivered in the room. what a hassle. so before heading back to your rooms, make sure to pass by the reception if you are want to get your internet password.

the boat tranfers from phi phi to phuket is cheap, but it will take you forever. so we decided to rent a speed boat. but do not get from the hotel bcos it is very expensive.

overall, i will recommend this hotel and if i'm back in phi phi i will stay here again. just some minor glitches in our trip that hopefully improved the next time for future travellers.

Room Tip: Pick rooms nearer to the reception area.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Phi Phi for 4 nights in February 2012. The island is very picturesque and the sea as warm as a bath. This is an ideal location for total relaxation, but not for you if you are looking for an activity-based stay because there's little to do.

The hotel is a bit expensive, but you're paying for the location and on the whole it's worth it for a short break.

The restaurant staff were not very attentive, but generally the food was good quality alhough the selection fairly limited. However, for better service, cheaper food and a more extensive choice of options, we recommend the restaurants just along the beach.

The snorkelling is good, although you have to be prepared for quite a long swim out to the drop-off beyond the designated swimming area (watch out for the long-tail boats!). Similarly the diving in the area, especially around Phi Phi Ley, is very nice. The only down side to the snorkelling and the diving is that the visibility is not great, although at 5 - 10 metres it is perfectly acceptable.

We leave the hotel tomorrow after a lovely two weeks. My wife enjoyed two shopping trips to Tonsai Bay and used the Sea Gypsy boats next door as they are cheaper and priced by the boat, not passenger as the hotel does. Thankyou to our skipper Wun (I am guessing at the spelling but pronounced as 'One') on the Pornsunee, a lovely friendly young man who was a pleasure to travel with on all our other day trips to snorkelling locations, monkey bay, Maya Bay of The Beach fame.
I had several lovely afternoons diving with the in house dive team, a lovely couple called Anika (hope I spelt that right and sorry for all the blag about American TV etc.....actually I'm not sorry at all, it really is as bad as UK daytime telly!) and Giles so thanks to them both for a couple of lovely afternoons out.
We have been in the Sea View apartments which are the furthest from the bar/restaurant etc and on a hill so if you have mobility problems avoid these.
The Garden Bungalows look lovely from the outside and are set in lovely gardens.
This is truly a get away from it all resort so if you are party animals this is not the place for you, go to Tonsai Bay which has the all night shops, bars etc and lots of young people. If you want lazy relaxed days with trips out when you fancy it then this is the place for you.
I can't review the resort without mentioning the Sea Gypsy Restuarant Jamine's which is right next door to the hotel and does lovely Thai food and beer which is cheaper than the hotel. We used and enjoyed both the hotel bars and restaurants and Jasmines (were you can arrange sea gypsy boats as well).
Leaving for home tomorrow having had a lovely holiday with no complaints.

As a couple of recent reviews have mentioned, individuals have different expectations of a hotel, but this one in particular gives everything it promises.
A location that is second to none, the beach at Laem Tong is stunning and yes it does not have a pier that the ferry from Phuket can stop at, to me that is a good thing and a few tonnes of concrete would destroy the aspect from the front of the hotel.
This is the thiird time I have been to the hotel and again it delivered exactly what I was expecting.
There is a programme of improvements that will give the hotel the edge but personally the first time I came here, there was no mains electricity and no televisions in the rooms which wasa good thing.
lying on a beach reading and doing not much is what this hotel excels at.
I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in the UK, Europe and US and this one has the best location of any I have stayed at.
There is a few local restaurants and we alternated between the hotel and the local places during the time we have been here.
The staff are lovely and remember repeat guests which is very nice given the hotel has an average occupancy of over 80% which is not easily achieved these days.
We have always taken a speedboat transfer option as it saves hours and can almost give you and extra day on the beach in a weeks stay. It is very expensive but really makes a difference to the start of your trip.
I would recommend taking boat trips via the hotel as you will not have to haggle with the drivers.
A brand new restuarant and bar are set to open in the next couple of weeks, this will give more options for dining and coral wing guests will have their breakfast up there, it will give amazing views across the bay to bamboo and mosquito isands.
For anyone who thinks there is nothing to do or little entertainment then yes this is probably not the right hotel for you.
We spent a day hiking to Tonsai bay last year and even though Tonsai bay is full of tourist tat and nothing original at all it is well worth it for the views from the Tonsai viewpoint.
The snorkelling off the beach is sufficient to while away an afternoon of three after about 4pm.
Peace and quiet and relaxation are what we wanted from this hotel and it delivers this in spades.
If you want lots of provided entertainment and to be spoon fed what to do, then dont bother going perhaps a cruise ship would be a better option!
The new manager of the hotel who has been in post for about 5 months now is so passionate about the resort and the island that it is a pleasure to listen to her plans for the resort. I know she has been to Phi Phi many times over the last few years and is striving to work with the locals to improve awareness of protecting the environment.
In fact I have never met a hotel manager who is more perfect for the job they are in and it makes me more interested in how the hotel develops over ther next two years.
This year we met my parents in Phuket and took them to Phi Phi after they had had a week on Samui at the Conrad, this is a true five star resort, they have been to every corner of the globe and they preferred the Holiday Inn as it is a more personal and relaxing environment to be in.
There are many touches the hotel provide the do make it a special place, currently the staff are excellent and really go out of your way to make you feel welcome.
Go and see for yourself rather than read bad reviews!!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are within 40 metres of the beach. If you can afford it, coral wing arei good, if not garden bungalows 200 -219 are well spaced
