Not great

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 19, 2013
I’d say, …quite a disappointment. I’m usually very positive on my reviews and do not sour easily, but for the cost, it just wasn’t worth it. The only good feature is the beach front location. The beach is nice for sure, but we’d stay elsewhere next time. First, the bathroom is a bloody death trap to get to. Steep stairs in a bungalow? No fridge and the TV didn’t work. Little things, sure, but nothing added up. There was construction going on early in the morning as well. We raised some concern over this and were not dealt with well.

This is my fourth trip to Thailand and when you stay in a larger place like this, you can lose the heart or drive to provide good service. The front desk was rude and disinterested in their job. We planned to stay 4 nights, but moved on after 2 and had a far greater experience elsewhere. If you’re not a diver there is absolutely no point to be here.

For being a veteran of the travel in Thailand at the mid-range price point, there are much better places to stay. Not horrific, but also less than average. You can do better.

Terrible rooms with lots of mosquitoes. Bad air conditioned room that leaked. Staff was not helpful. Barely anybody spoke english. Restaurant had delicious food, but the staff was not very welcoming. Bathroom was separate from the room, and it was full of bugs and not air conditioned.

DON'T STAY!

This is a review of the hotel and not the diving school. The Coral Grand diving school and its facilities are excellent, but I suggest you stay somewhere else to sleep...

We found that the hotel swimming pool is good and well maintained as is the garden/grounds. However, the accommodation is very tired. The shower barely worked (it stopped if you flushed the toilet), the room air con was noisy, and the general feeling is that buildings and facilities is that they need some maintenance. The maid service is good with fresh bed linen when needed and rooms always left clean. The location is perfect as is straight onto the beach.

Room tip: Stay somewhere else

We stayed here for 2 nights from New Years day this year. The location of the hotel was excellent, at the Northern end of Sairee beach within easy walking distance of the beach bars but just far enough away so that you arent kept awake all night. The wifi in the hotel did not work and the breakfast was pretty poor. However the beach and pool area were lovely and the hotel offer a free taxi service to the pier which is useful. The room itself was not great, particularly the bathroom, but the onsite dive centre made up for this for me. The staff at the centre were extremely helpul and friendly and I would recommend Coral Grand Divers to anyone diving in Koh Tao. Koh Tao is a beautiful island and i would have loved to be able to stay longer, 2 days was definitely not enough time!

Booked this hotel over the Internet and was a bit worried it would be be a little out of the way but was relieved on arrival that it was perfectly situated at the quieter and more beautiful northern end of Sairee beach. We were met at the ferry pier by the hotel courtesy taxi which was a pleasant surprise as we had not expected this. We had booked a bungalow which was 25 Mtrs from the swimming pool and 50 meters from the beach. Towels and beach beds were free of charge. Service was generally very good and courteous. Breakfast was adequate in the beachfront restaurant. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby very reasonably priced. The bungalows are the best accommodation as the hotel rooms seemed quite small and dark and tucked away at the rear of the resort. Only negative about the bungalows is that in our one was the aircon unit after several hours became very noisy and dropped condensation. We would definately stay here again.

We stayed for 2 nights in a bungalow. Nice resort. We were picked up by a complimentary shuttle at the ferry terminal coming from Koh Samui, but I recommend calling ahead to tell them what ferry you will be on so that you are sure they are there to meet you with the sign. Koh Tao is an amazing little island. So quaint and beautiful. The hotel was nice with many bungalows. Ours was large, clean and comfortable within a 1 minute walk to the beach and beachfront restaurant and dive center. The only complaint we had about the room was that the bathroom was a little odd. It appears to have been added on to the bungalow after the thing was built and was all finished in concrete. Very spacious though. We left the door closed between the bathroom and the main bungalow as it was very hot and humid in the bathroom and there was a large cockroach in there along with a centipede which was a little off-putting but hey, you are in a bungalow by the beach on a tropical island so this can't be avoided. The food was wonderful at the beachfront restaurant and very affordable. They also have a great Thai massage set up on the beach steps from the water. An hour long massage was 300 Baht. I recommend taking a long tail boat to the nearby island just around the corner from this bay for a day trip. Really beautiful. You can also easily walk from the resort into the town along the country road or along the beach. Go check out the beach lounge "Fizz" about a 10 minute walk away from the resort. Also there is a very nice little Thai restaurant called Tik that served amazing food in the village also (hang a left at the 7-11) Although the price was fairly high for this resort, it was a very enjoyable stay and a decent value. You are on a quiet part of the beach near the end but close enough to the party if you want it. Staff is very nice which is a big plus.
