My visit to Lop Buri this year was very interesting as it happened during King Narai festival. King Narai is the name of a famous Thai King from 700 years ago.

Back to present, each year in February, Thais celebrate King Narai festival. This year, 2018, was extra special because there was no celebration in 2017 to respect the passing of King Bhumipol.

The whole ancient city of Lop Buri was decorated. There were flower beds everywhere. Food stalls selling food to clothes to fresh fruits were everywhere. Vibrant colors of gold, yellow, purple were used to decorate.

In the ancient palace compound of King Narai was where the celwbration took place. Performers dressed in costumes paraded in front of the audience whe the narrat telling the stories of ancient Thai Kingdom and its dealings with foreign powers. The narration was accompanied by actirs acting in various scenes, props of ships, elephants, wars and lights and sounds making this experience a unique one.
Look at the pictures. To fly understand what I had experienced, book a ticmet and visit Lop Buri somewhere in the middle of FebrUary next year. Your senses will be overwhelmed! Smell of food being cooked in the open, various colors of flowers and fruits and people in traditional Thai costumes will enrich your experience in Thailand. I will tell more about the monkeys in another review.

We walked around for about 30 minutes. Not really worth the train ride from Ayutthaya. Your time is better spent exploring the ruins in Ayutthaya.

Kings palace is huge one must visit its value for money architecture is very intriquate and few things are made of pure gold. Location of the King Palace is quite good as well as the entry tickets are reasonable.

Great venue in central Lop Buri. Fantastic architecture with hundreds of people dressed in traditional costumes performing and running stalls for food and other products, performing weaving cloth etc. not sure how frequently it runs though. Even without that the grounds and architecture were magnificent. The gardens and trees well maintained and a pleasure to see. The museum is well set out with videos, photos and actual exhibits with Thai and English explanations. Great piece of culture and a must see.
