Had one night stay in this hotel as had arranged a bird watching tour with local ornithologist. On arrival the outside looked very pleasant. That changed the minute we waved through the door. The hotel is very dated and looks as though nothing has been touched for years. The staff try hard but mostly hadn't a clue. Service was very slow, the hotel was very cold. The fire was only lit once we had eaten our evening meal. We were the only ones staying in the hotel and e only ones eating in the restaurant so there was absolutely no atmosphere. Our bedroom was not fit for purpose. It was impossible to close the windows due to the rotting and filthy frames. The bed was damp and smelled of mildew. It was so cold in the room despite a portable heater that we had to sleep in our clothes. It is such a petty that this hotel has been let to go to rack and ruin as the location and surrounding are is stunning.

I come here to enjoying the tea with my husband. We order cream tea with scones and taste good.
I like the place design it's homey so really relaxing, maybe because when we come there's not many people.
The hot tea in a cold weather with the old song music they playing and the beautiful view outside for me is really weekend getaway to relax from all city crowd.
This restaurant also have a hotel to stay in upstairs.

We arrived at smoke house at 12 noon, and asked to check in early a bit. Since the room is empty. But the way they greet us like' what r u doin here? Its not 2pm yet'' and then we said, the room is empty but the receptionist lady lied to us and said the room is vacant. And then we had lunch there, cost about 300++rm for 2, The service is very slow, Took 1/2 hour for appetizer which is only fries garlic bread. The taste is reasonable for main course which is lamb rack and chicken pie. We sat there and now the guy coming to us and said ' u can check in now, because its 2 o'clock! And i dont see anybody check out from our suite! Wtf.. is it too much to asked to check in early?! I must say the way they welcome u is very unfriendly, except the older indian lady which is nice and polite.
Enter the room, yes its spacious but very unpleasant smell, dusty and damp smell, lay down on the bed, same smell, old and damp! The room is nice but need TLC! That 3 bangladesh guy need to send back them to charm school and very slow services! And they are bloody arrogant (especially the short and fat one).
The good part is beautiful scenery, nice breakfast in the morning accompanied my friendly bird asked for food, very beautiful bird and they are singing.. this is what i like the most about this place..
Unfortunately..Overall i think they just need to change their management and hired qualified people to do the customer services..

Nice and really cozy. I wished I have a cup of hot coco with marshmallow type of place. Being in a all year summer country like Malaysia, this place got a "Downton Abbey-ish" feel.
Love all the staffs member there who are able to tolerate with my twin toddlers.
But too bad they are not really a "toddler friendly" place as they have many nice antiques pieces around and no TV in the room or strong internet to stream Disney Channel to distract them from wanting to touch all these nice looking display.
Tyler and Zephyr amazed and their eyes sparks when they finally found a TV at the public living area.. But they were sad as the channel does not have any kids channel. And they start wanting to wonder around looking for
things to play.
I must say their scone and chicken nugget are really awesome. Can't forget the taste of their warm and nice scones. And they serve freshly squeezed Orange Juice in the morning.
The room are a bit worn out. But then again, people who visited the house must understand that it is not easy to maintain the originality of a closed to 150yrs old house.
No regrets, love the place, the staffs and the surrounding.

Room Tip: Tea Set is a Must to try and also their Almond Cookies.
