My boyfriend and I spent 5 days and 4 nights with seaventures on the rig and had an incredible time.

I completed by Padi Advanced Open Water with instructor Helmi who was fantastic. He has a great eye for wildlife and explained everything very clearly.

Alongside this we managed to dive two full days at Sipadan which is a marine wildlife hub. We saw the famous barracuda tornado twice alongside jack fish, white tip reef sharks, Hawksbill turtles, green turtles, bumphead parrot fish and many more!

The house reef is a great spot for a night dive as it is home to many moray eels, octopus and cuttle fish.

I would highly recommend staying here if you are diving in the area. The staff were fantastic and the food was incredible. The sun deck is a great place to watch the sun set with a beer after a full day of diving.

Our only improvement point would be to vary the dive sites visited in Mabul and Kapalai. During our stay we visited the same ones more than once which seemed a shame as there are many more around the island to see. The other people on our boat had the same experience during their longer stay.

My brother and I was at Seaventures in mid oct 17 for 4d3n. Tawau-Rig transfer was seamless. Receptionist at Semporna was knowledgeable and gave us good advice where to buy our last minute gears.

Upon arriving, we were pleasantly surprised by their warmth and hospitality. It started with a Club-Med style of welcome and ended with a sentimental farewell.

Despite the not so great weather and visibility, we enjoyed our dives with the professional guides. Janine was extremely meticulous, she went all out to look for macro stuff at Mabul and Kapalai. Mark was definitely entertaining on the boat and it was awesome diving with Mitchell (aka Hot Mitch ;) ) at Sipadan. Overall, the guides knew what they were doing and where to go to. Really appreciate them moving their tanks to where we were seated. We were also super happy to get the second trip to Sipadan, these guys make an effort to make your day! Although the rig starts really early for Sipadan, it also meant that sites were not too crowded.

Life on the rig was good too. We enjoyed the food, it suit our Singaporean palette that sometimes we had to control ourselves from eating too much. Loved the BBQ night and live band performance, apparently they have that when there are many guests so I guess that we were pretty lucky. It was hilarious how they roped everyone into a mass dance and I guess that really break the ice on the rig. We also love the sundecks and the towel facilities.

Cabin was slightly above basic, initially the aircon was leaking so they offered me another room but we were too lazy to move all the things we had. they repaired in by our next sleep. One thing to note was that toothbrush & toothpaste were not provided, it was just a general soap dispenser. I guess you could pay to get that though.

There is room to improve for the rented equipment. My inflator/ deflator was not working (though it was my fault for not checking it on the deck and only on the boat) so it wasn't entirely comfortable for that dive. they changed it thereafter. My bro's SPG also had a delayed response and it was changed the next day.

All in all, the crew and efficient service made our stay. Thank you to Ramesh for his leadership and personal touch with guests. Keep up the good work Rig Crew!

Full rundown if you are considering diving in Sipadan. # 1 You definitely should if you are serious about diving. The rig is 40 mins by boat from the mainland, Tawau airport is approx. 1:15 ride from Semporna (where the boat departs), factor this in with your flights and airport transfers. The rig is a former working oil rig, it is not the Ritz Carlton, it's not one of the villas over water which are on the nearby islands, neither is it a 1* star hotel. If you go to an island resort you are effectively stuck in the resort, the islands are very poor & tiny, there is nothing to see/do outside of the resort.

Pete and his staff run an excellent operation, like everywhere in Malaysia the people are exceptionally friendly, welcoming and professional. I spent 5 nights on the rig and 4 days diving. I was fortunate enough to get 2 dive days at Sipadan but I went low season (this week). Approx 120 permits are issued by the authorities and there are approx. 10 other companies also seeking permits, you are guaranteed one dive day thru SeaVentures (like every other operator), it is possible to do 5 dives in one day (3 is part of your package) the other two you will pay approx. 75 USD for extra tanks/dive master. The diving is as good as you hear, it's spectacular, reef sharks, turtles, beautiful coral, a billion type of fish big and small. Sadly in Malaysia there is plenty of plastic trash in the ocean, the dive sites next to the rig / resorts are man made, there is debris on the dive sites, just a fact of life, the diving there is not great if you are a seasoned diver, if you are a new diver it's perfect for practice and you will see plenty of interesting fish.

The rig itself is very large, accommodates approx. 70 guests I believe, going in low season meant no sharing of rooms for a single traveller which was nice (I'm 45). The quality and quantity of the food is excellent, the beds are comfortable but the facility itself is a little dated, however it is quiet & it is clean. There are plenty of areas for communal and private seating & sun lounging. The dive masters are super professional, it's concierge service diving, they do almost everything for you in your set-up every single day. If I return to Sipadan I'll definitely stay on the rig again.

I am travelling the world for dive adventures. The Seaventure Dive Rig experience belongs to the top my list. You will find a top organised team lead by Pete Hamerton. Well experienced dive masters guiding through spectacular reefs with amazing coral, turtle and fish life. My PADI cavern licence thought by Pete and finished in Turtle Tomb Cave, is a Great Memory. You dive into Sipadan being a Volcano, finding old turtle skeletons in a mystic beautiful cave atmosphere. A rare wonder of the world. Gitta Blatt, Germany
