Highly recommend visiting here while in Nicaragua! It's a don't miss destination hidden on beautiful Ometepe! Wonderful place with everything 100% organic and natural!
Owners are very friendly.
Wonderful to find a great place concerned about both our health and the environment.

Delicious, homemade organic breakfast at the start of each beautiful day in a glorious, quiet location with outstanding views of Conception. Two balcony rooms are comfortable, and fine for families with children over toddler age. Elaine and Darren are terrific hosts who can arrange all sorts of experiences for you.

These were not concerns for me but you should note: (1) it is a 20-minute walk to most restaurants and there isn't much transportation, and (2) this is a 2-room B&B, so your experience is heavily impacted by who your fellow guests are. I suspect that the kind of person who chooses to stay here is likely to be someone you'll get along with.

Room Tip: Both rooms are similar but the one on the left (farther from the bathroom) has a better and more private balcony.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at La Via Verde for two nights. This B&B was fantastic. Eileen was the perfect host. She provided great suggestions of things to do during our short stay. We really enjoyed visiting with her and learning so much about the area and Nicaragua in general. Breakfasts were outstanding, loved the crepes!. We will return to La Via Verde!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms. Either is excellent with your own balcony.

We’ve stayed at a number of B&Bs over the years, but none of them can come close to our delightful experience at La Via Verde. Located on Ometepe Island (about half the size of Oahu) in Lake Nicaragua (about 1/3 the size of Lake Erie), this place is perfect for experiencing all the wonders and adventures of Ometepe and for simply just chilling. It’s a great place to experience laid-back Nicaragua like it existed many years ago, but with clean water and political stability. Our hosts, Eileen and Darren, started this farm in a rocky field 17 years ago, sleeping in a tent for the first three years. Now the farm produces organic food and is covered with a variety of trees and flowers. The two rooms are upstairs above the kitchen and share a common eating area with a spectacular view of Mt. Concepcion. They share a bathroom, and everything is nicely screened. Cross ventilation and an overhead fan make air conditioning unnecessary. The breakfasts (especially her beans, crepes, and eggs) are fantastic. This place is ideal for four adults traveling together. It is absolutely NOT appropriate for children, due to the deck railings and the shared facilities. Eileen also has a lot of useful tips and arranged for all of our transport on and off the island (except for the culturally fun “chicken bus” ride) we took back from a swimming hole. Some very good eateries are within 1/4 mile down the road either way.

We rented both rooms for 3 nights. The place is wonderful. The rooms have good ventilation and good fans overhead. You look right out from the common 2nd floor deck to Concepcion volcano. The common area had a fridge they keep stocked with water, sodas, beer and rum for you to have- just settle up before you leave. There are private decks off each room and the rooms are completely screened. Eileen is a fabulous cook, and a gracious host. Their farm is impressive and if she has the time I hope you can take a tour and see the picture of it from 17 years ago. They have put so much work and love into this place. It is NOT SUITABLE for children- don’t even think about it. The railings are only 2 horizontal wood pieces. Very secure for adults but I shudder to think of a small child upstairs. Also felt very secure at the farm. There is a locked drawer for your valuables. Eileen arranged several outings for us and taxi service and that was wonderful. This was by far the best place we stayed in Nicaragua. Find their website and book it now before someone else gets those rooms first!
