How do you feel after the long day standing, climbing, standing and waiting in a queue, taking HEAPs of photos and gasping with the crowds at Machu Picchu - exhausted!!!
How delightful to arrive into the quite, calm, and delicious smelling reception of the Sumaq Hotel to have ones bags whisked away,a refreshing drink placed in your hand and to be ushered to a soft and inviting lounge.
Bliss.
And the experience at the Sumaq hotel continues to delight and surround you with comfort and peace with extraordinary luxurious rooms, a delightful in house spa and world class food at the restaurant.
Balm for a tired soul and body.
We would have stayed another 2 days just to enjoy the hotel!

Stayed: April 2018

Excellent hotel, had to upgrade to this hotel because our original was overbooked! So glad it was overbooked, this hotel was amazing! Smells wonderful, very clean, excellent service. Food was the best food we had in Peru! Only wish we stayed there longer than 1 night.

Dear Jodimarie, we appreciate your kind comment and are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your experience at our hotel.
As you mentioned, Sumaq is concerned about ensuring the highest quality in our services. We hope that, thanks to the culinary classes that you have taken part in, you can prepare some Peruvian dishes at home.
We hope to see you soon at Sumaq. Best regards.

This was my second stay at this hotel. The rooms are very clean and well kept. There's a cozy bar on the ground floor. But for me, the food was the best thing about this hotel. The breakfast buffet has alot of choices while the dinner is excellent. The service was also excellent. For those new to the town, an employee will meet you at the train station and walk you to the hotel. Upon checking out, you can leave your luggage at the hotel and an employee will bring it to the train station for you before you board your train. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the river. The sound of the water put me to sleep!

We stayed at the Sumaq the night before our trek to Machu Picchu. When we arrived in Aguas Caliente via train, we were met my a porter who helped carry our bags to the hotel. The hotel greeted us with pure class - welcome drinks, appetizers and the feel of a 5-star hotel.

The hotel is right on the river, just down the hill from the village. It’s definitely the nicest hotel that we saw in Aguas Caliente (supposedly second to the Sanctuary). Rooms were extremely comfortable, spacious and with every amenity you could ask for.

Both dinner and breakfast were included - which was a nice surprise for us. Also included was a pisco drink at the bar with a complimentary appetizer.

We also hired a guide to Machu Picchu through the hotel. Celsar or “Alex” as he called himself was amazing. He met us the night before to tell us about the next day and make sure we were prepared and had all our questions answered. He met us 6:30am at the hotel, the time was our choosing, and he showed us every piece of Machu Picchu. Lunch was also included and we were back at the hotel by 10:30am which was based on our pace at the site. The hotel arranged everything for us, including bus tickets and entrance tickets which made for an easy time of coordinating what we have heard can somethings be a confusing process.

The Sumaq is a more expensive choice than the their hostels or hotels in town, but it is money well spent for the service, quality, safety and experience.

Well worth the extra money to stay someplace so nice for the once-in-the-lifetime trip to Machu Picchu. Good location. The room was huge as was the bathroom. The bed and its sheets were the best we had in Peru. Dinner at the hotel was excellent - even if the dining room was way too noisy. We also opted for the Highram Bigham train ride and it did not disappoint. All was well worth the splurge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front. Rooms in back face the railroad tracks.
