Milano Tourist Rest is a mid-sized mid-range guest house in a quiet part of Anaradhapura. The rooms are small, but the AC and beds are goood, and the hot water is reliable. The included breakfast is adequate, and other meals, especially the curries, are good if not exceptional.

The best feature of the hotel is the excellent staff. The desk guys and restaurant staff are intelligent, competent people who want you to enjoy your stay. Considering how disappointing Anaradhapura is in general, this place is a highlight.

First of all, I agreed with previous post, Anuradhapura really not worth the entrance fee. I felt bored at the end of the trip, can't wait to leave the ruin. If you have been to Kathmandu & Angkor Wat, you seriously should think of skipping this city.

Regarding the hotel, just an average place for overnight. I wonder there is other better option around, found this hotel through google & our driver did recommend it too.
Pro: Free wifi, free accommodation & meal for driver (good if you hire one for the trip), breakfast is not cheap but not bad, go for Sri Lanka version, the hoppers are not bad, just that you need to order a night before. Room with average cleanliness.
Cons: Foods served in restaurant is way too expensive. (To avoid, just walk out to the junction of the road, there is a local restaurant there, serving good food with much lower price). Hot shower not working properly (in fact, all hotel/hostel in Sri Lanka has this problem). Location not very strategic, need tuk tuk if you want to go to nearest grocery store. Mosquitoes in the rooms, plenty of them.

BTW, they provide local map for free, get one from them before exploring ancient city. Otherwise, you will be confused with the name of the places you have visited.

Room Tip: We went for the room in the opposite building, ground floor to avoid going up staircases.

We planned to spent 2 nights in Anuradhapura but we only spent 1 night since the place was not worth it.
The fees to enter the sacred city are over-priced for what you will see. We were very disappointed by the place.
Regarding the hotel, the Milano Tourist Rest, where to start... The room was full of mosquitos and moisture even if it was not monsoon. We were supposed to have hot water but the shower didn't even work properly. We managed to get 300/- discount because we didn't use the AC but still we paid 2700. The food was bad (and expensive) even when we tried fried noodles and cheese sandwich.
The worst was about the tuktuk and the tour they organised for us in the sacred city. We experienced the rickshaw mafia as someone said before. They have an army of taxis and tuktuks ready to take you for tours corrupting security guards and charging very very very high prices.
We don't recommand that place at all. If you decide to go to Anuradhapura, don't go to the Milano Tourist Rest. We clearly don't understand how Lonely Planet could give such a good review about that place!

Room Tip: Choose a different place! Bad experience.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night.I is close to the lake, not very close to Sacred District.
The room given to us was very big, with 2 double beds, a/c and fan.
Price, relatively to other hotels in anuradhapura, was a bit expensive (3500 rupees per night).
Food was good, service excellent.
Across the street bike rental for visiting the Sacred District, which is appx. 20 mins with bike.
The management has a very tourist oriented approach. Will suggest their own tuk tuk drivers, will offer you tour of the sacred district at supposingly low rates, will even provide you cheaper entrance to the site tickets. Not really like this business oriented approach, but overall service was great and the peronnel very friendly.
Would recommend it but try to bargain price.

We stayed just 1 night at this hotel. When arriving, everything was ok. After dinner, they propose us a trip to Anuradhapura cheaper than normal, but without paying tickets and currupting guards... We refuse and then service become rude... When leaving to see Anuradhapura site, they told us an expensive price for a tuktuk and tried to send us their driver, that was like a tout. Finnaly, we called in advance to book the room and the price was 3000 and when leaving it as increased to 3500. As you can see in this review, we really don't recommend this place!

It is difficult to review this hotel as I didn't actually stay there but anyone booking through Hostelworld website should be wary as we did book it and got a confirmation but when arrived at the hotel, for whatever reason they hadn't recorded our booking and were full! In fairness to them, they tried to rectify the situation by booking us a room in another hotel nearby and offering to pay for it, but the new hotel was rather weird, looked insecure and needed cleaning. We opted to move to another hotel in the area.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel directly to book.

found the place to be good value for money, nice big airy rooms. air con that worked and the wifi was fast and reliable. the restaurant was good and reasonably priced. one down side is it is a little away from town. but the nice friendly staff and cosy location made up for it.
