The whole sanctuary is literally 8 small basins with turtles in them. The adult ones have been hurt or are unable to survive in the wild. There are two basins with the babies. No supervision so you could pick them up to your hearts content. I’m no animal specialist but I imagine this can’t be good. At nightfall you can help release them in the water.
In general, nothing special. We were done in 20 minutes.

In our way to tsunami museum we stop also at the Turtle Hartchery. The entrance fee was 1000 Rps (for the locals the price is less expensive). We had a guide that presented us the mini pools with the turtles, but he was not involved , repeating the speech as a poetry. You have a little time to make some pictures with the little turtles. Hope the fee is going for save the turtles not to attract tourist.

This is an amazing place all centred around education. Don’t miss a trip here. The owner is very knowledgeable and his efforts are commendable. We were lucky enough to go on a day when some turtles had hatched and were able to return in the evening to help release them into the sea. Just lovely.

The men that run this operation are truly magical! They rescue the turtle eggs from poachers, relay them in secure sand and then when they hatch, make sure that they are strong enough before they are released back into the sea. It is very educational with information about the different species and the devastating affects of humans on these beautiful creatures. Lovely to see the newly hatched turtles swimming around and playing with each other. You need no more than 30mins. We were invited back that evening at 5.30pm to release some of the turtles back into the sea, I'm sure this would have also been a wonderful experience, unfortunately we did not have time.

The first thing we were told was that only 2% of hatchlings are female,
The fact is that left alone that figure would be 50/50. As a result of this interference the turtles are doomed to be wiped out.
Science tells us that turtle gender is dependent on the sand temperature and moisture content when the eggs are incubating. These aspects are not addressed in the so called sanctuary, no research or science at all. The nests are robbed and the hatchlings put on display for tourists to play with.
Not to mention the appalling conditions in which the turtles are kept.
Do not contribute to the destruction of these amazing animals.
