We were transiting to Kerala from Kathmandu, and were searching for a place to rest our head during our overnight layover… How fortunate we were to discover the warm and welcoming Mala Bindra B&B! We are still struck by the openness and hospitality we experienced during our all too brief stay, as we typically associate this level of personal interaction / being looked after with 5-star hotels (if we’re lucky! :). It is clear that the Bindras thoroughly enjoy meeting global travelers, and sharing their love / knowledge of India with all who come through the door. We only wish we had more time to explore some of the secret, special corners they mentioned to us.
Since we have been to Delhi on several occasions, and thought we might be exhausted from our preceding Nepali adventure, we opted to dine in. Prior to our visit, I exchanged emails with Mala, who asked us for any preferred menu options. Being huge fans of masala dosas & fish curries, we thought these would be wonderful selections. Little did we know, Mala learned how to make the perfect dosa just for our visit (this is no easy task)! WOW, we just couldn’t believe she would go to so much trouble! (Dosas are not indigenous to this part of India--) And, we had read about her legendary chocolate cakes, which she also made especially for our visit (and, unbeknownst to her, I was going to be a birthday girl in the following week, so she found a candle and I was properly serenaded :). Again, we were so incredibly touched by these generous and kind gestures.
As for the room, it was spacious and comfy… and very frosty (fabulous A/C, as Delhi was hot hot hot!). The room was also spotless, as was the bathroom, which gave a very hot shower. There is also WIFI/a computer on offer. Breakfast the next morning featured hot and cold options as you like, including yummy breads with delicious locally made jams. Oh, and the Bindra’s home is just a short ride from the airport (10-12’ with no traffic, door to door).
All in all we feel so fortunate to have discovered this gem of an accommodation, and we very much look forward to a future stay in such a special place. Thank you again, 1000 dhanyabads, Mala & Gurpreet! We look forward to seeing you again one day.
