“Unbelievable Property in Delhi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

This property offered such exceptional service and a standard that is second to none. In itself, staying here was an experience that exceeded my expectations.

Worth the spend to stay and enjoy Delhi here.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Taj Club room for a personal butler, dedicated dining room, etc., etc.

The hotel is good for business or tourism. The rooms are a bit small especially given the price. The food and drinks are great but overpriced

My partner and I made our first visit to India in Feb/March 2012. We stayed at the Taj Mahal New Delhi on our first and last nights and one night in the middle of the escorted tour. For the first two nights we had standard rooms overlooking the pool and garden and the last night we had a view towards the Presidential Palace and overlooking the gardens of Lutyens houses. The rooms were all fairly spacious with good bathroom facilities. The one on the last night looked a little 'tired'. The staff, particularly those on the concierge desk, were welcoming, efficient and made us feel as if we were long term guests. We were able to leave our London heavier clothes with housekeeping after our first night for collection before we went up to colder Shimlas. After our second stay we left some of our souvenir purchases with them - they were waiting for us in our room, with the luggage, when we returned for our last night. Buffet breakfast in the coffee shop was varied and extensive. Tea/coffee and pastries were served promptly at our table. We ate twice in the evening at the coffee shop. The food was not overly 'interesting' but well prepared and served without too long a wait - very convenient. On our last evening we had a drink in the bar. It was a little soulless as there was just one other couple in there but the duty manager spent time with us discussing our trip and sharing experiences of Shimla where he had worked at the hotel where we stayed. Overall a very relaxing place to stay in Delhi - great Indian servicee as one would expect from the Taj stable.

Room Tip: Try to have a room overlooking the pool and garden - very pretty lit at night.

I've been in some of the best hotels in India which is for me the best in the world. Not only for the unbelievable properties (some are genuine palaces) but especially for the fantastic service and level of trainning of those employees there. Taj Mahal Palace is one of the smallest properties of Taj Chain and conserves a nice intimacy for individual travellers. From the time I enter there, smelling a nice lemon grass fragrancy to the time you are leaving, I was completely enchanted by this hotel. Highly recommended.

Stayed in suite 1030 for business. Comes with 2 king bedrooms, living area and pantry. Service was fantastic throughout. Staff are very professional and courteous. I thought this large accommodation provided good value for money in this very well appointed hotel. My only criticism is that the bathrooms and pantry looked very dated and tired. As others have commented: in dire need of a facelift. Everything else in this suite radiates elegance and style, original artwork everywhere, antique doors: one finds itself without any doubt in India. Happy to recommend.

We loved this hotel. It was my first visit to India since 1987, when I lived in Delhi for 6 weeks as a teenager. The main lobby area is very impressive indeed. We were given a 9th floor room with a pool view. I'd remembered reading reviews saying that one side was noisier than the other, and I thought the pool view was the 'quieter' one. I was wrong, as it looks out onto the road. However, I needn't have worried- the traffic noise is almost completely blocked out by the windows. We had a very peaceful stay there. While you get great views from the other side as we could tell from the top-floor restaurant (India Gate etc.) we loved the views of Humayun's Tomb, Lodi Gardens and Safdarjung's Tomb, all of which we visited. Concierge etc. all very helpful and prompt, the room as meticulously cleaned etc. It's true that the bathroom is a bit smaller than you might expect for a 5 star, but it was pristine. I've read reviews that the furniture is dated- we didn't agree with this. Certainly, most of the furnishings are not brand new, but we felt everything was in excellent condition. We had as much bottled water as we needed, and fruits and treats were replenished daily- for the tea/coffee making facility particularly impressed that there was a cafetiere!

The breakfast buffet was excellent, and truly five star. We found the staff a little overbearing on the first occasion, perhaps trying to be _too_ helpful, but on subsequent occasions they backed off. The restaurants are expensive- we tried Varq and the Grill Room. Both were excellent however, and we felt they were worth the money. Machan (where you have breakfast) does a reasonably priced (if not cheap) lunch buffet and the a la carte dishes for the evening etc. were very well priced- all very good quality. Machan in particular is very popular with locals.

We used the pool every late afternoon as a refreshing contrast to all the sightseeing- it's very well maintained and cleaned and the staff are very attentive, you quickly get free bottles of water, and there's a quick bar etc. service. All in all, it was a great hotel to stay in and a wonderful start to our holiday.

We usually took rickshaws from outside the hotel (they constantly pass by) but also took the nearby metro a few times. On the day of departure, the hotel called us a regular cab, and the metered fare to the airport was very cheap (about 300 rupees, forget exactly.)

Try and get a high room- the views are excellent. We loved watching the buzzards soaring in the thermals _below_ our window! Hope you find this useful. It's not a cheap hotel (5 star hotels in Delhi aren't) but we felt it was well worth the money spent and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Top floor- both sides have great views as it's the only tall building in that part of Delhi. Win...
