The hotel is located in the bustling old Delhi ; the approach to the hotel is through a narrow lane and will have to carry the luggage for some distance till the hotel . The rooms are neat and hygenic , the staff is also very helpful . The rates are also reasonable and it is a good value for money. The hotel doesnot have a proper restaurant and they serve breakfast in a small dining room.

They pick you up from the airport as promised. That's good because its difficult to follow maps when there are no street names and all the roads look the same. Rooms are clean and there is always hot water (just ask in reception to put the emersion on if you want a shower at an odd time). Breakfast is good. We had the 'American' with tea toast and an omlette. Great base for exploring the old city.

Most tourist to Delhi whisk through Chandni Chowk on a pedicab, taking pictures as proof that they have been there and done that philosophy. Hotel Tara Palace allows you to get an insight of the charm of old Delhi.
Tucked at the end of a short lane at the old cycle market, this convenient location allows you explore on foot the various lanes and sights of this old city to experience the pulse that drives life as it had for centuries, and able to "return to base" whenever required. It's very close to the market, thieves market, Jamma mosque and Red Fort.
The accessible roof top is a good viewing point of the Red Fort and a perfect location for dinner, enjoying the tasty vegetarian cuisine, which my daughter describes as "out of this world" and reasonably priced. One can also witness the activities at roof top level including cooking in open air kitchens, dyeing works, children playing, laundry etc away from the hustle and bustle at street level.
Safe, clean and adequate, with very friendly staff make you feel relaxed in this warm hospitality. I am already yearning on a return trip to this comfort in life, calibrated to basic levels that allows one to soul search and define "enough"
This charm needs to be extended to the travel agent associated with this hotel to make it perfect combination.

We left the Tara Palace this morning in the wee hours to take the train to Agra. A tout at the station instantly approached us and tried to convince us that we needed a different document for the train reservation. Because they were so helpful, I immediately thought to call Tara Palace to confirm the ticket problem. Our reservations were fine and we were being scammed. Long story short, the Tara Palace was a good value, clean and friendly.....and yes it is down an alley off of a busy Old Delhi street . The weather was cool so we didn't get to try the AC and we only had the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. They have a very knowledgeable tour/ travel office for negotiating the numerous sight seeing options.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and were given one at the end of the hall with a window and door to a litt...

Stayed here for about 5 nights. I had originally booked three nights, but when my plans changed mid trip, I e mailed the hotel to extend my stay. They were very prompt in replying to my e mail, as they had been to all my initial e mails, which was very much appreciated...

Although their website says they only do free airport pickup at the international terminal, when I told them we were coming into the domestic terminal they did not for a second hesitate to agree to pick us up there. The driver was there to greet us, and the drive to the hotel went well. Nice to have a driver take you there the first time, as it is a little off the beaten track down a side alley...

Our room was disappointing at first, as it had only a smallish window looking out to an airshaft. We got over that soon enough, and enjoyed the peace and quiet that came with an "inside" room. The room was clean, and the bathroom nice. Hot water was always there once you had the front desk flip the switch for it...

The restaurant is on the hotel roof, but you don't eat there. The food is cooked there and you eat either in the dining room on the third floor, or in your room. You can ask to eat on the roof if you wish, and they will probably allow it. The food was pretty tasty, actually, and was all veg. No meat! We were able to get beer for dinner no problem, and it was cold and very tasty! The free breakfast is on the smallish side for a big westerner, but not a total waste of time...

WIFI in the lobby only for now, as well as a desktop unit. The lobby is very small but okay to surf in...

Every one of the staff were very friendly and helpful, but Chubby goes above and beyond the rest. If you need anything, ask for Chubby. Pay him for anything he may help you with that is out of the ordinary, as he is an ambitious guy that really wants to work hard and help the guests...

The Chadni Chowk area that this hotel is in is chaotic and alive! If you have a sense of adventure and want a real slice of what a big Indian city can offer, stay here. The area is blissful insanity, and has some great shops (a most amazing sweet shop 5 minutes from the hotel...begins with an H...on Chadni Chowk). Getting a tuk tuk to Cannaught is easy, but the metro has a station in Chadni Chowk...if you can find it!

I love the Tara Palace. I found this place almost by accident in June 2011, but now I won't stay anywhere else, and every time I stay there I'm again reminded of how much I like this place. Rooms are spacious and clean, with cool white marble floors and wood furnishings. Every room is equipped with television and a refrigerator, though the refrigerator shuts off with the rest of the electricity when you take your room key out with you (this is standard in mid-level hotels, I've found). Bed linens are spotless and replaced daily, and the bathrooms are well-maintained. Room service is cheap, and the hotel restaurant makes quite tasty, safe, basic indian, chinese and continental food to order, which arrives piping hot. The service at this hotel is excellent - attentive, courteous, and pro-active without being pushy. They won't bug you for tips, but I found myself wanting to tip everybody because of how well taken care of I felt.

The only down side to this place is that there is no wireless throughout the hotel, though there is free wireless in the lobby, as well as a computer with internet access.

Don't be freaked out by the hotel's location in an alley - it's quite a safe neighborhood, and the location is actually really great - walking distance to jama masjid, red fort, chandni chowk, and a host of attractions. It's also quite near the metro, from which you can get to the rest of delhi very cheaply. The free transfer from the airport is also quite handy!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms advertise a balcony, but it doesn't have a great view and the balcony is tiny...

I recently returned from India, and my first stay was at the Tara Palace. An added bonus for me was the free pick up from the airport. After a long flight from B.C. Canada it was great being picked up and not having to worry about getting to the hotel.
The staff were super kind and helpful. I was travelling with my daughter and we both felt safe and well taken care of.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, very safe and clean.
