“"Kufri in the snow"”
Review of Kufri Ski Resort

Kufri Ski Resort

we stayed at the Radisson Hotel some 45 minutes further down the steep slopes, in Shimla, the windy roads up the moutain was certainly a task and a half, with an excellent driver like Satpol, he was unreal, snow had already fallen maybe the day or so before and was a picture postcard amongst the forest of tall trees that covered the hills, stopped at yaks on the side of the road, if you wanted, where you were wrapped in village attire head gear and all, had photo's sitting on them for a few rupee's, made for more, bit of fun, then further on to horse back ride some 1/2 hour trekk to the top, after a 10 rupee fee at a post half way into it, seems to be a thing goin on at this part, all in the snow with the poor horses sliding here and there to the rough handling of some of the guides, sure wasn't a good look, to make shift stalls of food and nic nac's, Meeta Maa temple, the best view of the china border and the Himalay's way in the distance....enjoyed been out in the cool air....

We went Kufri in summers, nothing much to see except mountain peaks and temple.

It's 40Min of horse ride from the horse stand consists of pathetic road with unbearable smell at some stretches, paid Rs. 250 per person. Lots of people are trekking by foot also choice is with you.\

If you choose horse ride then i recommend you to start from the horse stand and insist for the id card of the person.

Had one of the best maggi near temple, give it a try if you are a maggi lover.

I noticed One problem with the horse ride that once they drop you at the top they returned to the base carrying other persons whom they dropped earlier. Insist for his mobile number and give him fixed time when you wanna return (2-3 Hrs are sufficient).

Clearly tell them at the begning that you can't wait much at the top else you may have to wait for hours at the top for horse.

I recommend you to visit this place in winters, you will not regret your decision.

snow was good at the time we visited Kufri. Good activities are happening there. Make sure to bargain with horse riders and others

went to the edge of the resort on horse back, looks exciting the trek up in the snow is fun. It is a bit hard to approach without a horse in winter and there seems to be a sort of block on private cars going up but still is fun place to be

We pony-trekked to the top of a mountain where there was the worlds highest go kart track (not tested!), snack and souvenir stalls, a shooting range (bisleri bottles), the chance to sit on a yak, dress in local costume and see some magnificent views. It was a good day out BUT 2 words of warning. You can take a short or long trek - we chose the latter. Both take you to the mountain which is about 45 mins each way, but the long trek took us a lot further where we could have seen a temple on top of another mountain. But there a LOTS of steps up to the temple and most people didn't bother to go up. By going on the long trek we added about 2 hours to riding time and by the time we got back we were very very cold and so saddle sore I could barely walk.
Second warning - do not pay for the services of the photographers that hang around. We paid about £50 to someone who belongs to the 'Outdoor Photographer Association', thinking that we'd have a range of pics of our day out. Not so. He took loads of pics of us dressed in local costume, all in highly amusing Bollywood style, and some really stupid pics of us sitting on yaks, wearing cowboy hats and brandishing rifles. Not only that, but we never got all the pics we'd paid for and only one dvd instead of two. We had to chase him up to get even these, until eventually he put the phone down on us and we just had to put it all down to experience.
But we enjoyed the day - the souvenir stalls were OK, but I noticed afterwards that if you go round the back of the go kart track there was a shop that looked a little more upmarket, although I didn't get a chance to check it out.
There is a clean-ish (Indian) loo there (rs5) and you get your hands washed when the lady outside pours a jug of water over them!
