Reviewed 26 February 2011

This place is absoulutely fantastic.

It is inside a temple campus, and you feel the positive energy around you.

Govinda Restaurant has amazing food, cooked with utmost care, and offered to the Lord before serving.

That does not mean the food has less variety. There are a lot of options on the buffet menu.

Luxurious and spacious rooms.

As a single women travelling I was looking for safe and quiet place to stay. A room at the compound of the Hare Krishna Temple seemed perfect. Little did I know about the grossly distorted view of reality of Iskcon! After having made a reservation beforehand the grumpy receptionist made me sign a paper saying 'Management has decided not to allocate room to single female in the guest house' unless the room was allocated through reference. I was allowed to stay after signing that I will not have any visitors and to be in my room before 10.30pm. Therefore implementing that I was a so-called loose woman.
The room was spacious and clean but unfortunately I didn't get much sleep as the guards placed outside of each of the corridors leading to the rooms were listening to the radio, talking and a phone ringing in 10 minutes intervals outside all night long. When Ieft the room I was met with open mouth stares. The staff of the guest house was cold and unfriendly which made me wonder why they are running a hotel facility in the first place.

Well I have been a member of ISKCON for a very short time. But I have stayed at other ISKCOn properties in India. This is perhaps the one of the older ones and more lavishly build ones. It is very easy to reach from the Airport. Try avoid the taxis unless you carrying heavy luggage. Take rikshaws to reach here faster & much cheaper.
It doesn't promise swimming pools or that kind of a frills. It does promise you a divine experience if you want one. Up close and personal with Krsna is a great experience. Let me run you through with how a typical day goes around here. Wake up in the morning after a good rest. Wash yourself up & if you really want to have a lifetime experience, reach the temple for early morning Aarti. It is magnificent, truly divine! Head to have a good breakfast at the Govinda restaurant. Head for the temple, enjoy a few hours of Hare Krsna chanting and head back to rest in the afternoon after an early lunch, more of a brunch. Things start pretty early at this place. Attend Aarti and Bhagan in the evening, enjoy in-house chaats & delicacies there too. You will like it. If you want to go out, Juhu beach is very close by. Go there for a walk, stroll, swim, eat or drink. It is a nice vibrant (but heavily crowded) beach.
Some typical rules to follow at the hotel - No alcohol, smokes or non-veg food allowed inside premises. You are literally staying at a temple. They are very strict about these. You can check out good places nearby. For cafe go to Mochas on the Juhu beach and the like. Plenty of options are available. Mumbai runs till late, so you also go to have the original Naturals Ice-cream at the Juhu, 4-5 mins walk from the hotel. It has yummy milk shakes too. Must try! Overall I liked the experience Juhu ISKCON has to offer. It met all my expectations and I returned home after 5 days a happy soul.

Good place to stay with family (specially veg. people), the place is neat and clean. The food preparations reminds of home preparations. The rates very reasonable (compare to other hotels in Bombay).

We checked in without any difficulty. We made reservations online and had to pay 2000R as a deposit beforehand. You also can't reserve A/C vs. non A/C and you just have to see what is available on arrival. Our room was nice and clean, and we heard staff members say that it was in the "new wing" but we have no idea if it truly was in the new wing. It was a bit of a walk from the reception area and was overlooking a large courtyard that had some wedding event going on the night we were there, which means there was music and noise. There are security guards everywhere and you do have to scan your bags if you come through the front entrance. Our room had 2 single beds and it did have hot water. The hotel is located next to a movie theater/mall but otherwise, the location was just ok. There is a restaurant on site but they only serve a buffet for lunch and dinner. There was also a lot of paperwork at checkout.

Negatives: there is no toilet paper so bring your own. The room was fine, but my feelings about the place are mixed and thus am only giving it 3 stars, probably because we have some negative feelings about something that happened at checkout. We were sitting in the lobby waiting to call a cab and the security guard tried to kick us out of the lobby for no apparent reason. After we informed him that we had spent the night at the hotel the previous night and were waiting for a cab, he left us alone but continued to look at us suspiciously.

The hotel arranged for a car to take us to another city after we agreed on a price but when the car showed up an hour later, the owner of the car started to quote a different price than what we had agreed on. I realize that this may not be directly related to the hotel, but the hotel staff was there with us and knew what was going and was less than helpful, and even may have been helping the car owner try to cheat us. This whole encounter left a negative taste in my mouth about the hotel. Overall staff seemed sort of blase about everything and for the price we were paying, we expected more. I would still recommend the hotel because the rooms were fine, though.

We had booked a room at Iskon and received an email of confirmation. The day we travelled to India, I talked to the person in charge of reservation and he confirmed again that we had a room reserved even if we planned on arriving in the middle of the night.
Well... when we arrived in Mumbai, there was no room for us at Iskon; suddenly the reservation had changed for the day after and we ended up with no place to stay in the middle of the night, in a city we didn't know!
Definitely not a place to recommend because thay can't be trusted.

Away from the crowded and sometimes overwhelming centre of town, this hotel was a delight.
It's a huge complex with a busy reception where the organised staff speak excellent English.
The tidy rooms had all you could need, air conditioning and a shiny clean bathroom too. Grab some room service breakfast if you get the chance -- the spicy Chai and toast with honey were delicious.
The restaurant serves nutrious and tasty vegetarian foos, and it was very popular with the locals. We saw many familes came in to have dinner together, always a good sign.
The beach is a 5-10 minute walk away and It's a great place to people watch. Young and old come down in the evenings to socialise and there are some very fancy hotels along the sea front you can stop in for a cocktail or two.
In the evening the Hare Krishna Temple holds religious services and guests are welcome to attend. Do go if you get the chance, it's pretty uplifting - even for non religious types such as us.
