This place is OK. Needs a major refurb and a good clean. Sadly Mumbai costs a fortune for places that are pretty bad so for 950rps this is probably the best you'll get. Fan is inadequate for Mumbai heat. Reception guy has impeccable manners :)

Room Tip: Don't be deterred by the horror hallway leading up, it's not that bad on the third floor!

We stayed there 2 nights. Its decent clean and the rooms are quite spacious. The separate bathroom is in decent condition and you can even find hot water here (of course not always). I raise the overall rating by one because of the excellent service. The host is very helpful and can show you good places to eat and visit.

This is an excellent budget option for Mumbai! Location is great, right between Colaba and Fort Mumbai. The rooms are spacious and have good views of the city, it has hot showers, is clean and the manager is so kind and very helpful. If you're on a shoestring I definitely recommend staying here!

The hotel manager was the most polite person in India! He was the nicest, quirkiest man.

The price was more than quoted in the guide book for high season (and we were in low) and he wouldn't budge on price, and as we didn't get there until late we were at his mercy. For what you get the price is extortionate.

A room, two beds, shared (unclean) bathroom and no Internet facility (although Internet in Bombay as a whole is hard to come by). You don't even get a plug socket in your room to charge your camera.

On our arrival there was someone on the stairs watching a movie. On our departure there was a whole family squatting there!

That said the location was excellent a 5min walk from the Gateway to India and we spent a couple of hours walking up marine drive. It is also very close to the restaurants and shops of Colaba.

This was the second place we stayed in India after staying for 3 hours in the Salvation Army place. And boy was it a pleasent surprise.

It was hard to find, literally just in a high rise building. The stairs look the a murder movie set - lots of pan spat up the walls. This just added to the intrigue about the place.

Michael was great, very helpful. The hotel is ideally located right by the Museum and a 10 min walk everywhere.

Basic but good. Cheapest place we could find!

We stayed in room 3 for 3 nights. The room was a good size, fairly bright with one window (could've done with a curtain), clean sheets, fairly comfortable bed, desk and chair for painting and writing novels and had a fairly fresh lick of paint. However one BIG minus was the fact there are no electrical sockets in the room - this was made just a tickle better by being able to use Michael's (the landlord) electrical sockets at any time - day or night.

The communal bathrooms (no room has attached) just about passed for clean on a good day, and on a bad day were fairly dank.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

The free breakfast is as basic as they come, but fine.

Location was good, walking distance to most places and not too crowded.

All in all for 900 rupees for a double would recommend for a few days.

At the end of the day it is a room within a building within a city within a country that is rather large.

Room Tip: Food - for some tasty Western food try 'The Pantry' just up the road, has great sandwiches a...

We stayed at Lawrence for one night in August, and we payed 850 Rupees for a double room including breakfast (tea/coffee, toast with butter and jam, and a banana). It was well worth the cost, definitely the best value for money in Mumbai. The staff was very nice and they let us check in early and leave our bag in their office until our train left, which was 10+ hours after check out time. The rooms are very basic but clean. They are also very airy because of the big windows and fan. The manager has an electrical outlet in his office for charging phones/cameras.

It's very easy to find, just tell the cab driver Rhythm House (music store), Kala Ghoda (the area, pronounced 'Kala Gooda'). If you walk up the street on the left side of Rhythm House you will see a blue synagogue on the right, turn right into the street in front of the synagogue. Walk a couple of meters and you will see the Hotel Lawrence sign on a building on the left side of the road. there is a book store next to the entrance.

The hotel is walking distance from Marine drive, Eros cinema and Colaba. Very nice location.
