“A Wonderful Palace...err Hotel!”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

Bissau Palace was part of our G Adventures trip. It was a great place to stay, largely due to its heritage and ambience. The rooms were basic but clean. The bed was hard, but we were so tired at the end of each day, it didn't bother us. It's a tranquil environment in the middle of Jaipur's hustle and bustle. There's a nice pool and the restaurant was great for breakfast and lunch. You can't go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: We had a room on the lower-level, along the front. It was great!

I loved this place, full of charm, and very pleasing to the eye....
great entrance and lobby...
few nice shops, good place to change money too.
was a swimming pool, but I didnt use, and food was fine, nothing amazing, but nothing to complain about.

The entrance is the best part. We stayed in the old part that was very shabby and beds squeaked all night. Shower was a bit rustic. The hotel offers all services including internet, laundry etc and has a nice pool. Meals were good but staff lacked manners and expected a tip for everything. Reasonably close to town and very noisy at night. Not easy to get to sleep.

Had my laundry done here but they beat your washing, so came back a bit thinner.
I asked reception to post my postcards that were stamped and was told to post them myself at the front gate. My tour leader handed them back to reception as he said they should do it for me and I am still waiting for the card 6 weeks later. I am thinking it was not posted.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of an Intrepid trip. It is a grand old heritage building, full of character. However, there has not been much effort put into upgrading the rooms or in keeping them clean. The bedding and linens leave much to be desired. Very dodgey. The dining room service was dreadful if one was ordering outside of buffet hours. Almost 2 hr for sandwiches in the mid-afternoon - and they were not worth the wait! To be fair, considering that this is India, I would rate this a 3. Anywhere else, I would rate it lower.

Stayed here for 2 nights on an Intrepid tour. Initially it all looked very promising driving in from the chaos outside. The communal areas are reasonably pleasant. The lounge, dining room and library look reasonably impressive and do have some old world charm. But then I went to my room. Outside were a couple of filthy old pillows which were obviously from another room left out to dry off and air. No doubt they would be appearing on someone's bed in a pillow case. They were brown and shuld have been binned. My room like most of this property looked OK, but don't dig too deep. The sheets were not clean. When I went to bed I could feel myself being bitten. I put on my jogging bottoms and top to cover up before getting back in (I was tired). The room was dark and grubby and the bathroom, although huge was not great. I didn't have any problems with hot water though. As for the restaurant, the other reviews pretty much sum it up. We sat for lunch and there wasn't much available. What there was was decidedly average and poor compared to food I had out. The grouds are quite pleasant, but venture out and it's a very different story. It is a bit of a market street with plenty of animals for slaughter. All the entrails slung in the street and it was the only time I was in India when the smell nearly made me throw up. Turning right out of the hotel is filthy and stinks. Yes it is India, but this was probably the worst street I found. Noise from partying outside also went on til 2am.
In summary this is a dated former impressive home by Indian standards. It is worn and shabby, but more so in the rooms. Not a great street and you can probaly do much better. Bed felt and looked dirty.

From the moment you enter the gates and head up the driveway, you feel that you are entering a world far from the craziness (but fun) that is Jaipur. Set in beautiful gardens this place feels like staying in a family home. The public areas are stunning, yet have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Spend some time exploring the lounge and the library, it's like a museum but you can relax and order a G and T at the same time.

I have actually stayed here many times over the years. All the rooms are different but all feature fresco paintings and antiques. You do have to remember that the building is old and has old plumbing to go with it. But what it lacks in water pressure it makes up for in charm and atmosphere. Beautiful grounds including a swimming pool and a fantastic location just minutes walk into the city walls.
