Jantar mantar observatory in Jaipur is a wonderful blend of Indian science as well as mathematics.even though there are people highly knowledgeable when they see the observatory they just say wow...not a single word to explain what exactly it is.... whenever you have a chance to visit this don't miss it out... highly recommended....

We were not sure what to expect with the visit to the Royal Observatory / Jantar Mantar. It is where Astronomy and Astrology meet. Considering the age of the observatory (which is all outdoors and relies on the sun for its numerous readings), it is very good condition and as the guides all point out, it is VERY accurate at telling the time etc.

Even if you are not particularly interested in the Astronomy &/or Astrology it is worth a visit to see how the sun plays an important time keeping role here on Earth.

A unique assembly of astronomical "sun dials" ( to put it simply). We testing the time against our watches and the system is accurate today. The day we visited Hilary Clinton was also doing a shop stop. It is worth seeing.

Open air observatory with outsized instruments used to measure the time, movement of planets but also with an astrological element as the zodiac is used to assist making compatible marriage partners in India. Home of the world's biggest sun dial and fascinating to see how engineers/physicists of the past measured time! Definitely worth a visit for an hour but take a guide who will explain how the instruments work plus a hat and sun protection as it is outside and very hot.
