“higher grade than most other hotels in area but soulless and overpriced.”
Reviewed 17 February 2012

Reception a bit unfriendly. They like the money upfront on arrival. The rooms are clean with nice bathrooms and of a higher grade than most of the other hotels in the area.Breakfast was good. But it's a pretty soulless place and you'd be much better off at the Fairlawn Hotel which is family owned, eccentric and friendly and a good place to relax..for less money.Or try the Ashreem Hotel to stay in very cheaply and use the Fairlawn to chill out/have a drink, use wi-fi etc.

Room Tip: check room before committing to stay and ask for a discount.

We stayed in this hotel for four nights(02 nights on way & 02 nights on return from Kerala).
I simply dont understand why the room rate is so high (6,330 Rs for a night in double bedroom. We had to ask several times for toiletries, towels, etc. The area for buffet breakfast is so small that you get no place to sit if you are a bit late. They also serve breakfast very late. We were supposed to leave at 0700hrs and I had informed them earlier so that we can get some packed breakfast at least. But after a long waiting they gave just 02 pieces bread with small amount of jam! Simply horrible!
During the second part of our stay the lady in the reception told me that we had been upgraded to a junior suite. But we find the room just a little bigger and there was water logging in the washroom. The last part of horrible story.... at night we saw rats running inside our room!

Room Tip: No idea about the real good room

This wsn't our first choice; we were shifted here as a business delegation at our Hotel of choice fell ill after a business dinner, and hence could not vacate their rooms.

The Hotel is situated in a crowded market area, and you are likely to cause a traffic jam in the short while it takes to disembark from the cab and remove your luggage.
The area becomes quite deserted (and shady) after about 9 p.m.
Access to the reception is via a rickety lift. The individual at the check-in desk seemed overwhelmed by several guests with problems, and could not locate our reservation.
With some difficulty, we were given 'suites', and believe me, they were quite a joke.

Access was through a series of maze like series of steps.
The suites had a reasonable view, but were quite frankly pathetic.
Linen was tatty, old, threadbare and not too clean. The bathroom door could be closed only from inside (not from the bedroom), the shower cubicle is barely enough to accommodate a 'man of stature', supplies were basic stuff.

Breakfast was adequate, although the chairs looked so delicate that I was afraid to sit on them. Maybe they're designed to pre-empt overeating...3 eggs and down you go :-)

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms have a view overlooking the Hooghly & Victoria Memorial.

my family love to stay as it situate in the new market area of the Kolkatta and everything is at very reachable distance. property is good. the service quite a bit slow. staff is very helpful and attentive. hotel needs to enhance certain facilities like cab service, locker in all rooms, wi-fi access must be without request, quick service in the room. hope this review might help to take corrective measures.

Had a terrible experience at Hotel Lindsay. Money was missing from room after it was cleaned, laundry not returned in good condition, wifi didn't work, breakfast was gross. Management was rude and unhelpful. Staying at this hotel ruined my time in Calcutta and I would like to help someone else avoid a similar experience. Stay away!!
