The "Cornerstone Lodge of Foley" should be on your short list if you plan on visiting the Alabama Gulf Shores area. It's been recently remodeled and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive to your needs. Just off Hwy 59 heading South, turn right on Hwy 20 and it's there about 1300 feet down the road; you can look for the Foley Water Tower to find it. I got a weekly rate of $299 (Just over $42 per night), by far hundreds less than any other hotel in the area which does NOT have a weekly rate and where most rooms are over $100. I called in advance and got a 2nd floor room, King Size non-smoking. I needed nothing when I got in, it was all set up, very clean and smelled fresh and non- musty, a sign of quality. It's actually like an efficiency apartment, about 500 sq. ft. and I'm pretty impressed and you will be too. The King Bed was clean and comfortable with 3 pillows, and buffeted by 2 night stands with Phone on one and Alarm clock on the other with lights above on each end, great for reading. There is 25" swivel Color TV with 20 Satelite TV channels, including FOX news and Encore for free movies. There is a closet and small dresser for clothes in the main room, and there is also a 30" round table with 2 chairs and an outlet to get dial-up internet access. I use Earthlink on the road, and access is like a local call if you have a local access number like I did - just .50 cents! Although there is not a couch, there is a great Reclining Chair and also nice pictures are on the wall of some nautical scenes. The A/C works excellent too and the curtains are light resistant and offer exceptional privacy. When you walk in the room, there is a small kitchen separted, and includes a small fridge with freezer on top, 2 burner stove, microwave, and a 24" sink. Theere is also enough cupboard space above and below for groceries and more. They give you plenty of plastic cups, forks, spoons, styrofoam plates and bowls too which is nice. In the bathroom there is space, and a large shower and good shower curtain, and 2 seats incase you're like me and enjoy long showers. The pressure in the shower is awesome, and they give you plenty of towels, tissues, a few rolls of toilet paper and soap. There are also shelves in the bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom have tiles floors, the main area is carpeted. The Cornerstone also has onsite Laundry facilities with coin operated machines. There is also a decent pool open from 9am to 9pm and it's clean and fenced. This is not the Ritz-Carlton, but has more to offer than most other hotels in the area, and the price per night is outstanding - the best in the area. The beach is a 15 minute drive in traffic, and within a few short minutes near the hotel is a Factory Outlet, other shopping and business services, and plenty of restaurants including Outback Steak house which is among the most consistent and excellent restaurants wherever I go, The Cornerstone Lodge of Foley lets you stay here, but more important, free's up the cash you'd spend on other hotels so you can have more fun, and spend more money on other things, like the many amusements and exciting vacation doings the area offers.
