I have just arrived back after spending 10 nights on plantation, the holiday was good but the resort is run down and the food was crap, I would not let our 2 boys eat from there. We were return visitors and had a ball 5 years ago, this holiday there was a vomiting dioreah (hope I spelt it right) bug going around where alot of people got sick, to me its not the best place to take the little ones.
The surf was good at times just a little expensive to get to the reefs each day.

Room Tip: Stay at Muscat Cove!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay on the island, especially as this is a return visit for you. We have many return visitors to the island and we aim to exceed expectations each time as we know future visits will always be compared to past ones.

We are in the process of refurbishing the resort. You would have noticed that the restaurant has been completely gutted and opened up onto the beach along with new tiling. We are planning on focusing on the bar and lounge areas and buffet area as our next major project for later in the year. We have also been refurbishing the rooms, with the complete renovation of the 2 Bedroom Bures and a soft refurbishment of the 1 Bedroom Garden Terraces now complete. The soft refurbishment of the Beachfront Bures, Studio Garden Bures and Hotel Rooms should be completed within the next month. The boat shed will also be receiving a facelift in the coming months.

We do recognise that food is an integral part of the Plantation Island experience, which is why we offer our guests as many options as possible so that there is something to suit everyone. In addition to our main restaurant, we have the beach snack bar for lunch and Ananda's Restaurant for dinner. We have also recently opened a new restaurant outlet in the convention centre with ala carte lunch and dinner menus and children's menus. Our sister property Lomani has an adults only restaurant, the Flame Tree, which Plantation guests may dine at with a reservation. Our neighbours Musket Cove also have a restaurant and coffee shop. In addition to restaurants we have two mini-supermarkets and a beachside convenience store for snacks, drinks, etc.

We did receive some feedback in the last few months regarding our menus, so in response we have overhauled our lunch and dinner ala carte menus. Our chefs recently attended the South Pacific Food and Wine Festival, and were inspired by the use of local produce and have incorporated these dishes into our menus.

Sicknesses can occur when you travel to a foreign country. We have a medical centre staffed with 2 nurses who are on call should any guest take ill or require minor medical treatment (e.g. minor cuts, insect bites, etc).

We are one of the only islands in the Mamanucas that offer daily surfing transfers to Cloud Break, Wilkes and Namotu. The cost for these transfers is largely determined by the price of fuel (which has increased significantly in the last 12 months). These village boats also have to be surveyed, have a licensed driver, carry life jackets and radios and have their own liability insurance. All of this costs money which in turn effects the price of the transfers. These boats are operated by the local villagers, so by supporting their business you are supporting the village and the local community.

My wife and I have traveled extensively and for some reason we continue to venture back to our little piece of paradise "Plantation Island FIJI".

We have been the on 4 occasions and it still delivers the wow factor.

If you have a family, you will not regret this decission if you choose this island. The accomodation is great, depending on what dollars you are prepaired to let go. do not recommend the motel accomodation. All the Bures I have seen have been great but the beach side bures have no comparison. If you can afford it then the beach side is the ultimate.

The food is good and the servise is what you expect in FIJI (Fiji time).

If you take my word for what it is worth you will thank me one day.

Room Tip: All rooms are good to great except the hotel rooms, a little dated for me.

My family and i recently spent 5 nights at Plantation Island!!
Arriving on the Malolo Cat we were welcomed by the singing staff and given shell necklaces! It really set the mood for the holiday!
Staff were absolutely fantastic throughout our entire stay!!
The resort is a little run down and just needs a bit of a freshen up, but for us it was more than adequate! We had a spacious Garden Studio Bure, which had plenty of room for the 5 of us!
Kids club was great for the kids with plenty of activities throughout the day and we mainly utilised this service in the evening. Watching the kids chasing Richie lighting the torches was one of the highlights of the evening! The staff are so good with the kids!!
Food was good and had plenty of variety each day!
Pools were clean.
The beach was AMAZING and provided my boys with hours of entertainment! From snorkelling gear to the sea kayaks... Hours of fun!
Overall we all had a fabulous time and cant wait to get back to the Island!
I have a hammock with my name on it!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a Studio Garden Bure. It was big enough for our family of 5. Two adults and three boys...

We didnt have any expectations about plantation other than that we wouldnt compare it to the mainland as its totally different. We did expect however, that the food be good as we had prepaid for a meal plan for everyone (there were 2 adults and 4 kids) and that our rooms were clean. Ive been reading reviews for plantation since last year before we booked and paid for the holiday as i really wanted an overall view of what it was like. The only way to find out is to go and see for yourself so we thought we would take the plunge and do so. Well, i wished I had stuck with my original idea of staying at denarau. Our rooms (all 3 of them as we got moved) were all dirty. The beds were so uncomfortable to sleep on that my hubby had to take painkillers to help his back as he had ceased up one day. The mattresses are on sheets of wood which makes them like rocks. The cleaning ladies obviously dont know how to use a scrubbing brush as the gunge that was built up in the showers and on the shower doors was just disgusting. The place is very rundown and tired as plenty of people have already said (since long ago) and even tho management keep saying they are refurbishing, (which it seems they are sometimes) its been like this since last year from what ive read on the reviews. We found the weather to be more hot this time of year, as its end of rainy season and wouldnt go again in march but wait until after june when its not so humid. That way the smell of rubbish and sewerage would also not be as bad as it was around the resort, especially by the jetty which is where our last room was. The food was shocking to say the least. Kids were made to eat free off the buffet only which we knew before we left, but figured they would have known what kids like, we were very wrong. Lunch was everyone ate the same thing, and you were lucky to have more than one choice and it was always a hot selection. Vege curry, sweet and sour steamed fish, chick wings, rice, casseroles. Dont get me wrong, some of them were tasty, most were tasteless, but kids dont want heavy adult type meals at lunchtime, their evening meals were not much better, and most kids i saw at the tables, sat there looking very glum with parents trying to bribe them to eat the food so they didnt have to pay anymore money for them to eat off the menus. We had complained to management ourselves as its just not good enough. You have families complaining and telling them what they and the kids would prefer, but no one seems to want to listen or make any changes. Families wont be encouraged to come back over and over if management cant give the suggestions a try. The kids club was ok, the staff were great with kids, check your prices of things as they seem to change all the time, the meal plans are a total nightmare with dockets you have to keep track of and give each time you eat which can be confusing, but definitely keep all receipts as you want to make sure others are putting stuff on your room accounts anywhere. We have to say a big thankyou to some of the staff that did make our stay a bit better, Naomi for always having a table for us and greeting us with such warmth, Matt for always being there to take our orders and always being so friendly, Bill for entertaining my eldest and playing pool in the evenings, Deoni for making the effort to say goodbye when we left and just saying bula, Tomasi for just being Tomasi, nicest guy ever!! Ritchie for being great with the kids and very entertaining doing the Charlie Brown!!, Miriam for taking the time to listen to our concerns and accommodate us as best she could to make our stay bearable. We wouldnt go back to plantation again at this stage, and we are trying to be honest here, Management need to make some changes, they need to listen to the families that are not satisfied, take the suggestions and comments that are asked of us on the questionnaire we fill in before we leave and actually make those changes, I guarantee that more families would keep returning if they could see their time they put into the questionnaire was being taken seriously.

Room Tip: Do breakfast meal plan as its very filling and keeps you going throughout the day, try to get a room...

What a great resort from the location of our Bure to the crystal blue waters .
A family holiday that was real value for money for a family of 5 .
The kids had fun & so did we with a helping hand from our wonderful babysitter varr gave my husband & I time to laze around on the LILO and hear nothing but bliss.
It's not a five star resort but clean comfortable and friendly . Spend the extra $$ and get the beach front accomadation it truly is worth it .it's like living the picture perfect postcard .

We (2 adults & 2 eleven year olds) stayed 7 nights in March 2012. The weather was stunning. It was our first time to Fiji, so we were a little bit nervous anyway but even more so due to the mixed reveiws this resort receives. However, I am very pleased to advise that this resort is great. Being almost an hours boat ride from the mainland, you definately get the feeling that you're on a secluded island in the pacific, however, there are plenty of land and water activities to do (or not do) to keep you entertained.

We stayed in a Garden Bure (322) that was comfortable, easily fit the four of us, clean and serviced daily. We were located just 20ish metres from the beach. The air-con in the bure was fantastic - very refreshing. There are no tv's so you might like to take a portable dvd player. We did but only used it once.

The food was mixed. The kids had the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they seemed to enjoy it. My husband and I selected from the menu for each meal and found the food to be some good and some not so good. The nicest meal I had was at the Ananda's Restaurant located at the end of the resort. The Chicken South Pacific was delicious!!

The staff were all friendly, very accommodating and always greating you with a big "Bula" (hello in Fijian). From 7pm onwards the staff keep you entertained. The kids club we used a couple of times but is more suited to younger children.

Take with you: pegs, washing powder, insect repellent and fly spray, loads of sunscreen and a small first aid kit with antiseptic cream for cuts and scapes.

We did not want to leave and cannot wait to return. Proof that Plantation Island Resort is a great place to visit. Thank you Plantation Island Resort.

Room Tip: The garden bures were great.

We travelled as a young couple early Feb for 5 nights for the second time and had the time of our lives, the only disappointing thing was the constant rain for the first 3 days so we couldn't enjoy dining out on the beach for dinner, I think next time we will book later in the year. Some parts of the island are a little bit run down but you don't notice it after the first night! There is soo much that you can do on the island from snorkelling trips, island hopping to visit the surrounding islands and boat rides for the kids. My favourite part of the holiday was visiting Shell Village and seeing their way of life, the school is gorgeous and so are the women selling their jewellery, I tried to go back other times to give the children gifts but the weather didn't allow it - most trips out are very weather permitting. I found this to be the hard part as the staff in the boat shed often said come back the next day which was hard when trying to organise what to do each day but we never ran out of ideas! The cash card system is very easy to use - just take cash to the office and they load it onto the card for you. The boat trip over was very bumpy as we were travelling through cyclone Jasmine, almost everyone was sick but a fun experience! The staff are all lovely and offer a warm 'Bula' whenever you see them :) We took the half meal plan which came with breakfast which was fantastic and the themed buffet dinners which were the best. The bread rolls before dinner were always a treat! The themed nights are a lot of fun such as Mr.Plantation, bingo and crab racing! The cocktails are very good too. We were given a free room upgrade as the hotel was closed due to the cyclone - we stayed in a pool-side room which was fantastic but quite far away from the main areas of the resort bit still great and was cleaned everyday. One tip is to take mozzie spray and pegs :) Overall it was a fantastic holiday and cannot wait to return again - a few tears were shed on departure!
