“Paradise???”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

I do hope this is not "paradise' - our small room faced an internal courtyard and yes it did smell of smoke - it also seemed to have no access to fresh air. The room also had a clear glass cube as the bathroom, but did have a blind.
The breakfasts were ordinary with staff who really did not want to be there, who yawned and seemed 'bored' by non Asian tourists.
Lunch was an entirely different matter - lovely freshly cooked food an enormous display of the entire menu all set on a vast table that you walked around with a waiter at hand to explain (although the labels were in English) and to take your order and a good atmosphere with lots of people who just came to lunch there.
The business centre was staffed by nice helpful people. The location of this hotel was very handy.
The biggest gripe is the deposit at the desk, all China hotels seem to do this, no problem, but this one actually takes the money out of your account and then at the end of you stay buts it back and charges the full amount again thus making 3 transaction charges on our account - I tried to explain this but the woman at the counter could not understand - even when I showed her on the computer - she said that it was alright at there end so it must be our bank. So do not try to use a debit card at this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a window to the outside of the building

Service is questionable, breakfast items run out early, front desk has trouble communicating and location is not the best!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in mid-October. As mentioned in previous reviews, the carpets were dirty and the room needed a makeover. We had booked a non-smoking room and it faced an inner courtyard. We could smell smoke from down the hallways and coming in through our window.

You definitely want to get to the breakfast room early, as we had to hunt for clean cutlery and place mats ourselves and the food was not replenished after 9 a.m.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel, despite its good location.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the outside, rather than the inner courtyard were bigger.

My partner & I stayed in this hotel for the 2nd time this year to give it another chance really. The rooms are ok, some are huge but they are tired and both rooms we stayed in had very filthy carpets, chipped paintwork and basically felt dirty. It's such a shame as it looks so lovely from the outside. Breakfast is only served until 9.30 but they start packing everything away by 9.15. You are not shown to a table and tables are not cleaned between guests so it's difficult to find a clean table after 9am. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the Yuyuan market area, which we loved and about 20 minutes walk from the Bund which is great and not too expensive either. We have decided that we would not stay here again. It needs a makeover and breakfast to be served until 10am really and for the staff to be more customer friendly.

The hotel offers poorer service than a similarly rated European-run hotel. Toilet paper, shampoo, soap, tea, etc is not replaced when used unless you ask.

Rooms are a little shabby - they need some attention.

A particular annoyance was the breakfast - we were told it was served until 10am - by 9.30 am there was very little left and nothing was replenished. By 9.45 the staff were clearing away the trays so as to be completely clear by 10am. Very annoying as we had a late arrival the night before and had paid for breakfast which wasn't there. It was better the next day as we made sure we arrived early.

In summary, try to use a European-run hotel if available for the same price.

Doesn't look like a 4 star hotel. It is quite old and require renovation. Both room and bathroom had a strange odor. The mattress is very hard. Breakfast restaurant looks very ugly and did not have much variety of food. The wc on th hotel is dirty and they don't have toilet paper. The employees don't speak very good english.

hi, i just got bed bug bites at the hotel yun’s paradise (how ironic!) in shanghai china. please warn everyone traveling there. the hotel denied that their fault which makes me think that they’re not going to do anything about it. we checked out immediately and demanded refund for our one night there but to no avail. i’m going to report to expedia where we booked our rooms and see if they will pursue this serious problem that the hotel is ignoring. do not stay here!

Room Tip: i got bit from one night of staying there and they denied it was their problem! dont stay here!!
