We visited the First Foodhall on Nanjing Road twice during a recent trip to Shanghai and we had dinner at Old Shanghai Snack Dishes both times. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly although they did not speak much English. The picture menu made ordering very easy as you just write the corresponding number on a little piece of paper at the table and hand it to the waitress. Highly recommend the deep fried spicy pork and the dumplings in peanut sauce. The noodle and rice bowl dishes were very good too. Very reasonable prices made for a great meal as we left stuffed with leftovers both times after paying about 150 RMB for each visit.
