The bar is good enough, the way they rip you off with a Credit Card purchase is NOT ok. Normally in China a credit card receipt will be offered to you to review and mark and X in either RMB or USD. The bar doesn't offer the receipt to review and allow you to select RMB. The bar has automatically X'd USD and they charge a 6% exchange rate conversion fee. A sham and rip off. Avoid this bar if you want to use a Credit Card. You'll pay and extra 6% on top of high prices and 10% service charge.

First time I visited Bar Rouge was back in 2004 or 5 and the city was under construction, the roads were a mess and getting to the Bund from the Ritz Carlton Puxi took forever. But when you arrived you could see by the well dressed and lively people waiting in line up the stairs to get in this was a hot spot. Inside wall to wall people dancing , drinking, and watching.... great mix of young and old of Westerners and Chinese and awesome music to bring it all together. Returning to live in Shanghai in 2013 I have returned to the bar a few times in the last 4 years but the vibe has changed... Yes it still remains one of the most popular bars in the city but the great mix of guests is gone and the servers focus is entirely on pushing table sales and big volume bottles and not on the fantastic environment which they had created and sustained through attentive service and great drinks of the past. Shame... oh one thing which shocked me in 2004 and they do still do today is the bar tenders setting their well on fire in the middle of a packed bar... somethings never change.

Went here in Christmas night. Great atmosphere and gorgeous view of the Buns from the rooftop. Lots of music and quite a bit of hip hop. The DJ was cool. Would definitely return.

Easy to find, you will know this is the place to be right away. Great looking crowd, quite diversified, amazing coktail list, grest bartenders and DJ, and of course THE VIEW
Music evolves louder with time and reach night club sound as it gets late. If you are looking for a loungy experience, get there before 10pm and for partyers later. Prices are descent for the venue. Robuchon restaurant is downstairs if you want to start with a Michelin star dinner. This is a great place for all kind of people who wish to meet people and see people

I went here on a Thursday around 6:00 PM and apparently things don't heat up in there until later on. I was literally the only one in the bar and was outnumbered by the servers and bartenders. The cocktail menu is extensive and my drink was amazing. I am sure that on the weekends and later hours are more busy and fun but I read a lot of reviews so I had to at least try it while I was there and had time.
