“Ups and downs from this hotel.”
Reviewed 7 March 2012

Although the hotel is clean and the rooms well equipped there is one thing that let's this hotel down. It's Rude staff!

I have stayed many times and they are un-interested and would rather be anywhere else than speak to you.

The hotel bar has no atmosphere and you will be paying a very high price for what can only be described as the smallest drink I have ever seen.

Getting around is ok. You have the subway system just outside the main door, but most cool bars are about 10 -15mins away by taxi which will cost about 30-40RMB.

Wifi is free in the lobby but is slow. Head a few mins down the road to Costa Coffee for a much faster connection.

Overall the Hotel is efficient, clean and well equipped. Just head out for food and drink. Go explore! After all you are in Shanghai!

Hotel itself was lovely, right from the huge Atrium, spacious lobby and excellent leisure facilities. The rooms were large, huge bathrooms with everything you need. A few English tv channels, mini bar and everything you need for a very comfortable stay.
Location was good as right on your door step was the metro line 4. It was easy to use around the city, although only did this once as taxis were so cheap. Maximum we paid for a cab right the way accross town for possibly 40 minutes in rush hour was £5, we struggled to get all other journies above the minimum £2-3.
Food in the hotel was pretty decent, ate at the buffet one night. Possibly would only return to buffet if plans dictated again.

Shanghai was a lovely city, nice people. Lots to see and do. The 'replicas' market was great, try the one next to the Marriott hotel on Peoples park, excellent shopping. Barter hard, the prices come down massively!

Room Tip: Higher the better the more expensive .Club lounge at the top looked nice

The Shanghai PuDong Hotel & Residences (not to be confused with the Sheraton Four Points next door) would be a solid four-star business hotel if not for the fact that it’s Internet connectivity is unacceptably flaky and slow.

It’s well located for business travelers, about 15 minutes by taxi from the MagLev rail station and an easy taxi or Metro ride to the cluster of office buildings on the PuDong side of the river, directly across from the Bund. There’s a Metro stop at the bottom of the hotel driveway for Line 4 (the “outer circle”), one of the less intensively crowded lines and one that connects to almost all the other lines.

The rooms are large and well appointed, with lots of storage space in drawers, closets and cabinets. Even the lower floors have a bit of a view. The bathrooms are large and functional. There’s a good but not great buffet breakfast in the “All Day” restaurant that lives up to its implied promise of good food service throughout the day. Hotel staff is friendly and efficient, although the level of personal service is a step below what you would find in a five star hotel in Shanghai (or a four star in Hong Kong). Rates vary significantly and you may get the best deal here by emailing the hotel directly. Ask for a rate that includes Internet and breakfast. The room I had was a bit more than $120 a night (tax included), a favorable rate booked by the large Western company I was visiting.

BUT: beware that Internet service. There is a wired connection in the rooms, but no in-room WiFi. That means you can’t use Skype on a mobile device or get fast, free access to email on your Apple or Android phone or tablet. You have to go to the lobby for that (where the WiFi is free). Despite the Cat. 5 cable in the room, downloads crawled at dial-up speeds and the service often dropped out. Speed on the WiFi in the lobby was no better. Hotels in general face an increasing demand by guests for bandwidth, but the Sheraton was unsatisfactory at all hours of the day and night, including 7:30 AM Sunday. So: a good business location, good service, nice rooms, but a flaw that many businesspeople will not like.

Room Tip: Rooms facing west and northwest (toward the Bund) have the best views

Had a quite pleasant stay at the Sheraton Shanghai Hotel & Residences Pudong, although it did not make me feel I need to return. The hotel has a few years on the neck but still in ok shape. Staff is correct but not overly helpful and friendly and the location of the hotel is a bit off from main restaurants and shopping area.

Dear Fredrik-on-the-go, Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with us at Sheraton Shanghai Hotel & Residences, Pudong. Your feedback is much appreciated as this helps us improve our overall service.

Centrally located in Lujiazui, Pudong's financial and trade zone and close to the venue of 2010 World Expo, we enjoys a very convenient location where the Metro Line 4 (Tangqiao Station) is just in front of the hotel and the Nanpu Bridge by the side. The city's business, shopping, sightseeing, and entertainment districts are all easily accessible. Additionally, we have a super shopping mall just adjacent to the hotel.

Dear Fredrik-on-the-go, we look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back.

We were in 2670 for three nights over Christmas - my girlfriend is cabin crew and this is the airline hotel. The room we were allocated was just superb, one of the nicest I have stayed in for many years. Spacious, well furnished, great wet room, lovely view (with a window that opened slightly for fresh air), good amenities and a desk with FREE internet as long as you had your own computer (free wireless in lobby). We didn't sample any of the bars or restaurants so cannot comment. The pool was closed for maintenance sadly, but no great loss. Overall, very highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view - go for high floor!

I stayed at Sheraton Residences for three and a half weeks this December, got back home a couple days ago. This is my third visit to Shanghai, a first for more than a week.

There are really three hotels on the same property - Sheraton, Sheraton Residences and Four Points by Sheraton. The first two share a lobby, the third one is about fifty feet away.

Residences are different from the regular Sheraton in a few ways. The room is nicer - it is actually two rooms, with a kitchenette and a washing machine. The cleaning service is every other day instead of every day. The price my company paid was pretty low by Shanghai standards for hotels of that type. Not sure how much of that was a company-specific discount.

The breakfast service is excellent, plenty of choices from European to Japanese. The two restaurants, China Court and The Feast, are very good, if a bit expensive. The service was next to flawless overall. The staff does speak fairly decent English. The gym is the usual Sheraton style. There's a pool, a few treadmills, an elliptical, a stepper, some weight machines. I would say they could add a machine or two - a few times the gym got crowded, and this was off-season.

There are a couple of cash machines in the lobby. One is by HSBC, a major bank with links to Bank of America, so if you have a BofA account, you can withdraw money without paying banking fees. My bank charged $5.

Taxi to downtown is 20 to 30 Rmb. There's a subway station in front of the hotel. Shanghai subway is pretty nice, as long as you avoid the rush hour.

The building next to Sheraton Residences tower is a shopping mall. The shops are nothing to write home about - mostly Western brands at Western prices - but there are a few decent cheap restaurants in the basement, and a mini-market where you can get essentials.

I got a tour guide via the TripAdvisor, and I can't recommend the guide service highly enough, it is everything a guide service should be. Search for Ms. CuteMinMin, she has many posts on China-related fora. The guide was excellent - took me around Shanghai, to one of the water villages and to Suzhou (subject to a separate review).

Not-so-good parts..

The Four Points part is a bit of a letdown. The restaurant on the top floor, something-or-other-on-29, just plain sucks. The view is nice, the food is substandard. The sports bar isn't too bad when you can find the bar tender, but nothing exceptional. By and large, the Four Points isn't worth the 50 feet walk.

No wireless in the room. The room did have wired Internet, and I ended up setting my own wireless there. Downstairs has wireless, but it's slow and feeble. This being China, Youtube, Picasa, etc. are blocked.

The laundry service is fairly expensive.

Overall, a very nice experience.

Room Tip: Try to stay within the first ten floors. The elevator is kind of slow.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights .the hotel as the title suggests very good in all respects and well situated but cabs are fairly cheap anyway so getting from point to point is easy and reasonable.Having said that we still used the subway system just to give it a try and that was also very good if not very crowded at most times.Shopping in shanghai is superb with many many shops doing copy items if you're inclined you can have a field day.with only 3 days we diddnt do much sightseeing but down by the yangtse in the centre of town is very impressive..Be sure to take the meglev train from the airport and then a cab to your hotel the train reaches a speed of 420+kl per hr and takes about 8 minutes from airport to the city station.Yuan gardens is a good place to visit with pleanty of cheap gifts on sale and many places to eat.I went with 4 lads (buddies) but I liked it so much I'm headed back in february with my grandaughter.

Room Tip: I was very happy with my room and it's not as though the hotel is on a beach so the views are al...
