No Surprises. Just another Marriott cookie cutter room.

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 13, 2024
The room was clean and a fairly good choice for a late night arrival into SJO. It has everything one needs for a one nighter. Perks are the little snack shop and a restaurant.

The bed was comfortable. I slept comfortably with the AC turned to 65 deg. F. I sleep with head phones to block out noise. My adult daughter on the other hand, complained about noise from the TV next door to her room keeping her awake late into the night, actually, early into the next morning.

The shuttle bus ride to the hotel took longer than I had expected, perhaps due to expedia.com giving wrong milage, the horrendous traffic or stopping at the Courtyard Marriott prior to the Fairfield. Fortunately the shuttle’s return to the airport, in the early morning, went directly to the airport. The shuttle leaves the hotel every quarter before and after the hour.

We spent the night here and we had an early flight the next day. It was quite close to the airport. The free shuttle picked us up on time. We had to leave before the breakfast opened and they were nice enough to pack a breakfast for us!
I suggest you get to SJO atleast 2 hours before your flight.

The property is convenient to the airport and the rooms are decent and the breakfast is adequate. Overall, the staff there also seemed to be nice. We only stayed one night while transiting through SJO.

Normally, I would have given them 4 stars but the primary reason I"m giving them 1 star is because their billing and management department seems to be atrocious. After, we checked out, we were supposed to receive our invoice by email but did not receive it. The elite nights and points for the stay also did not get posted despite the reservation being done directly through the marriott website. Multiple attempts to contact them and ask them for the invoice have failed. I have opened up a support request with Marriott helpdesk (i'm a Titanium elite) and they have been working for a week to get a simple invoice to be sent properly. It seems their billing and management is handled by someone from the adjacent courtyard and that person/team is totally incompetent.

Room tip: If you are an elite member and need your invoice - just make sure you get it printed out while checking out.

We only spent one night at the Fairfield and had a comfortable stay. Staff were all very friendly, helpful and bilingual. We were able to check in early without any issues. They were helpful in contacting a taxi for us, to take us into the city center in the afternoon, and they were helpful in providing directions to our 2nd taxi driver, back to the hotel, who was not familiar with the area. When we asked for an extra blanket and pillow, it was delivered to our room within 5 minutes. We were thankful for their time, service and answering all of our questions.

The hotel was clean, new and modern in design. There was a small fridge in the room. Our room was quiet. As mentioned in previous posts, there are only queen beds, i.e. no king size beds, but they were comfortable. Unfortunately we missed the breakfast in the morning, due to our early shuttle to the airport, but we did have a lunch in their hotel restaurant, when we arrived, which was basic but good. There are also at least three restaurants right across the street to choose from.

The hotel itself, is close to the airport in terms of miles/km, however, given the busy road, construction, and lack of overpasses, it was impossible to walk to the hotel from the SJO airport. We also found it difficult to get information ahead of time, about the shuttle, as we were told when we called the main Fairfield Marriott hotel number (apparently not the local number) that they were no longer offering shuttles from the airport – contrary to some helpful posts we had read previously. Upon our arrival at the airport, we asked airport officials, and we found the shuttle (to the right, when you exit the international airport), to take us to the hotel, which runs every half hour; and we were able to get a shuttle to the airport at 5:15am, from the hotel. Free of charge. It is about a 10 minute shuttle drive, to or from the airport, and no advances reservations needed. Shuttles begin at 4:15am and run every half hour from the hotel. So it was very easy.

A great place to stay if you need to be closer to the airport.

This was by far the nicest Fairfield Inn that I’ve ever stayed at (and I’m lifetime Titanium). I arrived at 9PM, and I was able to get the shuttle with no problem. They do a trip every 30 minutes so it’s pretty easy. The breakfast was really good, but aren’t all hotel breakfasts so much better outside of the US? I would totally recommend a stay here if you have an early departure or later arrival. Staff was great, very friendly. And as an added bonus, there is a Walmart steps away (you don’t have to cross major roads or anything like that) to pick up anything you may have forgotten. I will definitely stay here again when I come back.

We stayed at this hotel before catching an early am flight back to the US. The word is clearly out on this hotel as it was very full. It’s a newer property and the rooms are very clean and modern. The shuttle was convenient but get down there early to get a seat. The traffic around the airport is terrible so plan accordingly during the day. They packed us a snack to take to the airport and the breakfast starts at 530am. This is a great choice for a hotel near the airport.

Room tip: Traffic is terrible during the day due to construction
