We tried this restaurant because of all the good reviews it had.
The sashimi tuna was not very good but the rest of our food was fresh and tasty.
Server spoke English and the service was very quick.
Prices are on the higher side.
Definitely a good place for sushi.

Thank Mercello l

Sushi is probably a great idea in Costa Rica because of the accessibility to fresh fish/seafood - you can find pretty much every where in the country and La Fortuna is no exception. The problem is more about everything else surrounding the fish in the Japanese restaurant. Kappa sushi surprisingly (well, not so much, we read reviews before) had good Japanese food in addition to fresh fish.

We went on our second dinner night in La Fortuna, after having a subpar experience having sushi in La Corner the night before (and also a bit tired of having casados for dinner). Fortunately this time we had time to read reviews and decided to try Kappa Sushi.

It is a small place, but we arrived fairly early and it was raining hard, so we were about the only customers when we arrived. However, about 20 minutes later, when the rain stopped, a line started to build up, so I guess this place can be popular and may have waits.

As I mentioned, I had no worries about the fish (and yes, it was fresh) but what I liked a lot was that the other items were as good as in a more typical Japanese restaurant - the rice was cooked properly, and all other items, including sobas, tempuras etc tasted right. The portions are on the generous size and one specialty roll is probably good for one person.

The mood is a bit of a "candle light" dinner, but the restaurant is pretty informal, and we were in a family. It was actually a nice and relaxed meal.

If you are tired of casados and pizza, I think this place is a very good option.

We love this place. We live on the other side of the lake, and occasional we need a sushi fix. Well worth the drive.
