Traveling with GCT. A beautiful property. You are in the middle of nowhere, but that is the idea. There are five or six buildings along the river and you have to walk a few hundred yards to get to the dining area but it is so beautiful, it doesn't matter. Rooms are large, clean, and well maintained. The staff does the towel animals, which add a lot to the experience. If you like birds, this is the place. Butterfly garden on the property. Sloths, agoutis, crocodiles, Jesus Christ lizards, huge iguanas and so forth. The staff will arrange outings for you. Tennis courts available. Food was good and considering where you are, priced reasonably. We were fortunate to spend an hour or so with Mr. Hamilton, the owner, and what a story he has to tell! He has to be the Crocodile Dundee of Costa Rica. Again, it is isolated, but they will pick you up at the airport in one of their vans if you travel solo. If you just want to totally relax, sit by the pool and sip a drink, stop by this resort.

Recently spent 2 nights in this hotel. We had been booked here through Gate 1 Travel. Had a beautiful big room with a balcony overlooking the grounds. The grounds are beautiful with some wildlife and a butterfly area. In the morning, bananas are put in the trees to attract some beautiful birds - very nice. Breakfast was included, which was fine. We also had dinner in the restaurant both nights and enjoyed our meal. Staff is wonderfully helpful and accommodating. Very nice stay.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in what should have been the dry season but it rained most of the time. The umbrellas provided in every room proved useful! Have to agree that a highlight was the bird feeding at breakfast - we got some great shots. We had good wifi connection from our room (509) but others seemed to have problems. The pool area was good - we managed one dip before the weather set in. The rooms were all clen and comfortable and the al la carte menu reasonable. Nothing was too much trouble for the fabulous waiting staff. rafting and a jungle walk could be arrnged by the hotel and they provided a very useful map of the grounds - the butterfly house was worth a look even if the butterflies were not too enthusiastic!

Room Tip: All face the river and are accessible. For good wifi reception 507, 509 and 511 are probably good bets

The location of this hotel on the bank of a river could not be better from a wildlife point of view. In the grounds we saw massive iguanas, a two-toed sloth and toucans. Breakfasts were a highlight because the staff hung fruit from bird feeders outside the restaurant which attracted lots of multi-coloured birds, some tame enough to come into the restaurant to peck up our crumbs. Food, a mix of buffet and a la carte, was OK but not brilliant. The hotel's main drawback was its isolation. There wasn't really anywhere to walk to. Some of us took a taxi to La Fortuna, the nearest town, just to get a flavour of local life. Rooms are in two-storey blocks. Ground floor ones face the river, first floor ones the road. Mine was OK but looked in need of an upgrade. Other guests agreed.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the river and close to the main building.

This is in a great location for river rafting and hiking, but it's far from the nearest town and a bit isolated. If you want to get away from it all, this is a great place. If you're looking for a choice of restaurants and attractions, go somewhere else.
Here there is tennis, horseback riding, hiking and rafting. Perfect for a family visit, which was what I was there for.
The pool was very popular with the kids; the wildlife, the restaurant and the grounds were popular with the whole family.
As others have mentioned there is a healthy walk from some of the rooms to the main area. The reason for that is that the lodgings are build along the river, and as more rooms have been added they stretch along between that river and a narrow parking lot.
My pet peeve is hooks in the bathroom. This place had NONE! It would be fairly simple to add a few. There wasn't even one in that classic spot on the back of the door. Otherwise our room was quite adequate on the second floor of the last building, #5, I think, with a balcony overlooking the river.
Food in the restaurant was good. Breakfast buffet lacked a good selection of fruit and in general I'd call it very ordinary.

Room Tip: Buildings 4 and 5 are probably the newer ones. The corner units appeared to be larger, with small sitting areas. The river side offers the better view. Second floor units have balconies. Sorry, I can't remember if the ground floor units had patios or not; they may have.
