Decided to venture from our hotel and find a place to eat in town. Wanting a little break from typical Costa Rican food, we decided on cafe mediteranneo. Both my husband and I were pleased with our decision. They had a pretty big menu... We ordered a focaccia to start and pasta and pizza for our entrees. We ended our meal with a delicious cappuccino. We were initially skeptical about Italian food in the middle of the mountains in Costa Rica, but we were pleasantly surprised. Customer service was top notch as well.

Whole family enjoyed our last meal in Costa Rica here. Both Pizza and pasta were good. Huge fresh salad. Enjoyed the special pizza dough wrapped nutella with icecream dessert.

Don't get me wrong - we have loved the cassados but after a week of what are essentially quite similar dishes it was simply nice to have something different and we found that this restaurant fitted the bill perfectly. Pizzas were thin crust and good and the basiI lemonade was indeed fabulous - not a basil flavour in the normal sense but refreshing and delicious all the same. Restaurant was nicely fitted out and waiters were attentive - recommended.

I came from some disappointing pizza experience in La Fortuna and I was really excited to try Cafe Mediterraneo, as it was highly rated in several sites about Costa Rica. In one of these sites, it was pointed out that this is a place to have good pizza in a place where good pizza is rare. I agree. The pizza is really good, as are most items in the menu that we tried, mostly pasta - all home made - and salad. For dessert, the specialty is a dessert made of pizza with nutella and ice-cream. It's a bit different but actually pretty good.

It is not very centrally located, a couple of miles from downtown La Fortuna, so you probably need to have a car or hail a cab to get there. We were able to get a table quite easy but it was low season and we came a bit late. Good service, as is the case every where in Costa Rica.

It was our last dinner in La Fortuna, so we were glad we chose this place. I would say this place is a must if you are tired of casados and want to have some good Italian food.
