“One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in”
Reviewed 25 March 2012

What a beautiful hotel. My room was fabulous, very modern and comfortable. Nice balcony with a view of the volcano (well, I would have seen the volcano if it hadn't been foggy). The restaurant was great, and the breakfast buffet was a notch above typical breakfast buffets I saw in Costa Rica.

The only thing I would have liked was more lamps or stronger light bulbs. I know that most people dont go to a romantic hotel in Costa Rica so they can read at night, but when you are traveling solo, you want a little light!

A very small complaint for what was otherwise, in every way, a frat hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for something away from thee pool area, which was quite loud.

My husband and I went to Costa Rica for our 20th anniversary. We stayed at Nayara for the last six days of our vacation, after a four day stay in Manuel Antonio, and were so happy with this hotel! We enjoyed our stay in Manuel Antonio, but the customer service at Nayara put the other hotel to shame. Hotel staff were friendly and always checking to see if there was anything we needed. The hotel manager, Jorge, checked with us daily at breakfast to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The bartender at the pool gave us free ice tea every time we visited. On our first visit to the pool, we discovered two bunnies and two parrots. The bunnies and parrots actually let us hold them!
The first day we arrived, the staff had sculpted two swans in the shape of a heart on our bed with rose petals and a sign wishing us a happy anniversary. They then brought a small cake to our room. Every day there was a different towel sculpture on our bed.
The romantic dinner was incredible! We had our own private chef and waitress in a room overlooking the rainforest. They placed rose petals on the floor in the shape of a heart with candles surrounding. Our waitress, Karla, was excellent! She gave us as much privacy as we needed, but was there to meet all our needs. When we returned to our room, we found another amazing surprise! Rose petals were laid on the floor making a trail out to our hot tub on the deck. The hot tub had been filled with bubbles, rose petals, and flashing lights, and the water temperature was perfect!
Breakfast was amazing everyday. We loved the omelet bar, fresh pineapple, unlimited orange juice, and coffee.
We stayed in the Nayara suite and the view from our room was incredible!

Thank you Nayara for making our anniversary such an amazing experience!

Room Tip: The Nayara Suites are amazing!

I can only think of good things to say about this place, and I have traveled a LOT and stayed in many hotels. This one sets the bar high. It was beautiful, with amazingly lush walkways lined with tropical foligage. The rooms were luxuriously appointed, large, and very comfortable. My only regret is that I booked only one night! Will definitely have to go back.

We stayed at Nayara for five nights/four days during our honeymoon. In short, we loved it. The staff was exceptional; they fulfilled every request we made and met and were always knowledgeable and friendly. Our room--Room 44, if you can get it--was the ideal blend of comfort and luxury. I am positive that I will never see a better room. The hotel offered perfect views and comfortable common spaces.

The only issues that stand between Nayara and a five-star rating are these: (1) The food was as we found it to be all over Costa Rica--average to good, but never great; and (2) there is no common space or bar that is ideal for relaxing after dinner (the wine bar was lovely, but if you want a beer or cocktail, it is of little use).

That being said, if you have any opportunity to stay at this hotel, you are a fool to pass it up.

Dear valued guest,

On behalf of the entire Nayara family I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your review.
In regards of your comment about the food, please know that we are constantly reviewing our operations and raising our standards to improve the overall guest guest experience. We recently added two themed nights to offer different options, also we just started a new initiative where one of the servers prepares a guacamole in front of the table at dinner.

At our wine bar we serve a wide variety of local and imported beers and cocktails on top of the array of wines we showcase from Central and South America. I do apologize that our barteneder was not accommodating of your request. Please rest assured that this will not happen in the future.

Again, thank you for your review and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

I husband join the host of others who rave about this hotel. We had cabana 49 which is at the back of the property and totally private. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The staff are polite, helpful, and always say hello. The food in the restaurant is good, the service excellent and the breakfast included in the room is one of the best I have experienced. It is expensive, but worth every penny, so treat yourself to at least a few nights.

Room Tip: I got the impression that all rooms are nice, but I think the newest ones are #40 to 50 or #45 to 50...

This hotel is pretty hard to beat. First of all the grounds are breathtaking. Beautiful flowers and plants all over..amazing views of the volcano (although it was overcast and we couldn't really see it unfortunately). We stayed in a suite which was the most beautiful room I've ever stayed in. It was huge, with a beautiful bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. We had a view right from the bed of the volcano. Our terrace had a hammock with lawn chairs, a hot tub and a hammock. There was also a very nice pool, hot tubs etc. The spa was awesome. I had the best massage ever. My husband and I were in a room open to the rain forest and could not have had a more perfect setting (or massage).

The service was very good. The one downside was that the food was not that great. Breakfast was very good. Dinner at the main restaurant was good, nothing special. The sushi restaurant was okay- I am also a bit of a sushi snob being from California. I did really like the cute wine bar which had some good central/south American wines.

Overall incredible stay and we will definitely go back!

Room Tip: The suites are pretty amazing. We stayed in room 33 which was a great spot

My husband and I stayed at the Nayara for 4 nights in January and loved it. It really felt like a secluded retreat. Each guest gets their own cabina with a private balcony and jacuzzi tub overlooking the volcano. Although it's rare to get a full view of the volcano because of the clouds and fog, it was still a very picturesque view. The grounds are immaculate, the pool and pool bar are extremely relaxing (also with a view of the volcano).

The buffet breakfast was awesome- such an immense selection including fresh fruit, freshly baked pastries, eggs, omelets to order, and traditional Costa Rican dishes like rice, beans and plantains. The service at breakfast was also excellent.

We only ate dinner at the resort one night, but unfortunately we weren't overly impressed. It was a bit pricey and not as good as some of the other meals we had in Costa Rica. However, the service was very good. There's also a really cool wine bar with very high tech wine dispensers! Definitely worth checking out.

The staff was very helpful about booking excursions and making recommendations. We went horse back riding, went to the hot springs, and went zip lining. Zip lining was definitely the best thing we did in Arenal, and it is something not to miss!

The location of the resort is excellent- about a 5 minute drive to La Fortuna where you can shop a bit at souvenir shops and grab dinner. It's also very conveniently located in terms of getting to and from the various excursions.

The only down side I see to the hotel is that it's a bit spread out. Some of the larger rooms were quite a walk from the lobby/restaurant/pool. However, you could look at this as a plus since the rooms aren't all right on top of one another.

All in all, a great place to stay in the Arenal area. Very luxurious and oasis-like!

Room Tip: Not sure the upgraded rooms are worth the extra cost. All rooms are great!

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience at Nayara. It sounds like you enjoyed your stay with us and we are very appreciative of your kind words about the property and your Nayara Suite. We strive to deliver memorable experiences in all facets of our guests’ stay, and appreciate your feedback regarding the food and beverage offerings. We have implemented new dining concepts, including the dinner offerings, as of January. This includes the addition of a Costa Rican themed night, where guests can enjoy cuisine typical to this region in a tropical setting. We also added a second themed night, where the Chef will grill to order in front of our restaurant. The reaction to these new concepts has been very positive. Hopefully you will be want to come back and experience our new dinners very soon.

It was our pleasure to serve you and we look forward to welcoming you back to Nayara.

Sincerely,

Jorge Gutierrez
