The garden is surprisingly big. It has eight different areas with seven of them specializing in certain plants. The eighth is a rather run-down Japanese garden. The first one, where we spent the most time, was orchids. They have 18,000 plants and over 1,000 species. Some are so weird.

Other gardens include cacti & succulents (OK), ferns (poor), bromeliads (very good), palms (poor), secondary forest (OK), and zingiberales (excellent).

The entry price of $10 is pretty reasonable if you are a plant enthusiast.

This botanical garden is all about Orchids and is operated by the University of Costa Rica. I really enjoyed learning about all sorts of orchids from an expert guide. If you love orchids this is the place to go.

A well organized, diverse garden, filled with a variety of flora, fauna, and some wildlife, too. A nice spot to eat a picnic lunch.
