Great Hotel, beautiful setting, perfect weather, excellent and friendly staff. Very pleased with the golf course. For an all inclusive food was very good. Reservations for restaurants are tight and need to be made in advance. We will return

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at The Westin Golf Resort and Spa in Playa Conchal Costa Rica. It was a fantastic trip! The resort is quite large with several restaurants, bars, a huge pool, and beach access. We stayed in a Garden Villa Suite which we found quite beautiful. We enjoyed the large pool with swim up bar. There are so many restaurant options we did not get a chance to eat at all of them. The food was fantastic! A great variety to choose from in both food and beverage. They had a lot of the alcohol we have here at home which is a nice option when away. They offered 24 room service which was nice especially for early morning breakfast before venturing out for the day. The resort offered a shuttle service to get you from point A - B which was a nice option in the heat or after a long day on an excursion. If you are planning to go on an excursion from this hotel be prepared for a lengthy drive. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our only hiccup was coming back to our room after a day at the pool to have no towels to shower with. Night life was minimal. They did have live bands and nightly shows. The Nitro flame show was awesome! Overall it was a fantastic experience and we would return to this resort again!

First and foremost the staff at this resort are PERFECT. They are so friendly and very helpful. They all go above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful. We were very fond of Errol and Johnathan who were the butlers at Tower 2 where we stayed.

The rooms are very clean and updated. Our balcony faced the adults only pool, which was nice. They have drinks and snacks placed in your room daily, which is handy.

The beach and pool area's were nice, although we stayed at the adults only side because it was very peaceful and calm. There was never a line up at the bar, but people hog the towels. Perhaps they should have a towel card to prevent greedy folks from taking 6 towels for themselves. They often ran out of towels and you'd have to air dry.

We didn't watch the night entertainment much, but the fire show that we did catch was pretty neat.

The only complaint we had about this resort was the food. There wasn't enough vegetarian options at the buffets or the restaurants. They also need a toaster at the
breakfast buffet by Tower 2. They fry your toast. Weird. One more thing about food, we weren't told that the buffet would be shut down one night a week and we had no reservations any where. Luckily they have room service, but there isn't much to choose from.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay here. It is expensive but most places in Costa Rica are. We choose this resort based on location to the airport and to the day trips we wanted to do. It is close to Tamarendo which is a great town to visit for some local culture and purchases.
The Westin is a beautiful resort, with a very friendly atmosphere. We would recommend this resort to couples and families.

Room Tip: Tower 2 for adults only

Last October during a dental tourism visit to Costa Rica I stayed for a week at Playa Conchal residing at the Westin Resort. The resort is part of a large reserve that also hosts time share condos and some permenant residents. We had exchanged some Disney time share points for our week at the resort. We upgraded to the full service meal plan and stayed on site.

My thoughts on the week are very simple: "5 star all the way" except for 1 thing.

This was by far, the best resort I have ever stayed in. The service was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the unit I stayed in was fantastic, the bars were fantastic, the drinks were fantastic....what a neat place with all the wildlife, manicured grounds etc.

The only issue I have with the resort is the beach with its dangerous rip tide. Be very careful with the tide as it is down right dangerous. The beach inclines heavily towards the surf and drops off very quickly. During high tide conditions the waves reach very far on to the beach and you can be dragged right down to the surf with anything else that might be lying around. There are a couple of places you can swim and hide from the rip tide near some rocky areas on the right side of the beach. Any swimming is very limited with this tidal problem. I noticed that even very strong swimmers were fighting to get back to the beach sometimes. The sand is a beige white color made up of shelI residue, hence the name, "Playa Conchal." I really think that the resort needs to work on letting clients know about the rip tide situation. They also need to get a life guard on duty at all times. I didn't see any on duty while I was there. We rented a jet ski and had a great time once we were out and away from the beach.

If you get tired fighting the tide, you can grab a cheap massage on the beach from the locals that offer the service. By the way, don't bother eating in the village just down the road, the food is far better at the resort.

I was a little nervous after reading the reviews about this place. After staying here a week I can definitely say that the negative comments were completely unfounded. This is a nice place to relax and have fun. The rooms - first, location. Yes, many people said you should get a room close to the main pool. That is more convenient but even though we were several buildings down it certainly didn't ruin our experience. Plus, there are many little taxi/trucks that continually drive around if you don't want to walk. Second - the lay out. Each room has a porch, entryway with living room and elevated bedroom behind. Plus a little kitchen area with stocked fridge. Beer, water, sodas. The only odd thing is - no dressers! You have to lay your clothes (that aren't on hangers)on a shelf.
The restaurants and food. I'm not sure what expectation level previous writers had but I believe they fall into the category of "if I compkain about the food I'll seem like a real shrewd foody". Relax, the food is fine. The only problem we had was with the reservation line. Just because you make reservation doesn't mean you have a reservation! However, we simply walked to another restaurant, they got us right in and the food was great.
Tours and excursions. First - cost. If you want insurance, book through the hotel and pay twice as much if not, there is a fine gentleman just outside the gates as you head to the beach that will arrange anything you want. In many cases you will have a private tour with just you and the guide for half price.
We did just about everything and hands down our favorite..... Whitewater tubing. I wasn't even going to do it but boy I'm glad I did. I couldn't believe it was natural, seemed man made the way you swirl and fly down the river. Highly recommend.
The people. We never ran in to anyone that didn't greet us with a smile and an offer to help us. Pura Vida!
