I like many, read other reviews before deciding on where to stay, but I also have common sense as to where I am traveling and what I plan on doing. We are going on VACATION. I don't plan to watch TV, hang out in my room, or care what the decor looks like. With that being said, the rooms have been updated and we received clean towels and the rooms were cleaned daily. They also have a rec room available now so you can go watch your house wives shows if that is what you want to do...

Service was great, we even had a little mis understanding with one guy, but it was resolved (no problem, we are in a Spanish speaking country our Spanish isn't good) Catalina, was so very helpful and worked her butt off, so does Luis and the French Canadian guy (didn't get his name) they staff love what they do and we're all so interested in their guests.

The restaurant area, pool and the rooms have been re-done since the earthquake, although some small roof leaks have recently been discovered due to the rainy season starting. Our first room being one of them. They immediately got us in another room. After talking with a few of the staff, they said that the rain will let them know where the issues are as there really wasn't a way for them to discover leaks until the rain came. They are all problems that Mother Nature has brought them. No way could they help them and they have fixed up the place nicely since the quake. It also looked like they will have a little store open soon, but all the other amenities were pretty much done.

The place was laid back & full of wild animals. The horses came up on the property daily and were often seen out on the beach. We walked South on the beach as far as we could then snorkeled out to the small island. Looking back towards land was my favorite view. We then snorkeled all the way back to shore. No coral or much fish, but we did see an eel. The experience was fun!

Monkey Tours: We went on the Arenal trip. Awesome! We also did the Samara Trails with Alvaro, walked the beach into town and walked over to the next beach (Playa Carrillo) which was pretty much empty and so freakin gorgeous! We highly recommend doing the Samara Trails, but be prepared to walk up a small mountain. Not too bad, but if you are not conditioned this walk will let you know it. Views at top were stunning. You could see both Playa Samara & Playa Carrillo and beyond. We saw tons of unique birds, a few howler monkeys, native trees & plants, and learned so much about the land in the area.

The hotel food was unique, we loved the sauces and tried several different dishes each time we ate. Breakfast was pretty good as well. We also ate in town Laguarte and Casa Esperalda were our absolute favorites. We also stopped by Koss Art Gallery on our walk to town on the beach. The artist was there and so nice. We didn't get anything because we were walking, but if we would have had time, we would have gone back. He was also in town a bit later & ran into us and gave us recommendations and told us where to go for what. Great guy!

We had so much fun and feel that our stay wasn't long enough, so we are looking forward to our next trip to VPS.

Were staying there with my wife for three nights in the standard room. At first sight, the hotel was excellent, but on the second day we found out that the new towels which were supposed to be CLEAN were actually really DIRTY. The towels were replaced without a word but still... Another disappointment was when we found out that the maid has thrown away two empty 1-liter bottles which we specifically washed up and left next to the microwave, NOT in the garbage bin! But the final thing happened when we were checking out and I was telling the receptionist about the bottles thrown away etc. He listened to me and just said, ''OK, sir''. No excuses, not a single word of apology or even standard ''Sorry, we'll take care of that.''. Besides that, there was neither phone nor TV in the room. I could barely close the window shades since the design of the rings and pole was really poor. Positive sides: nice own beach, lots of iguanas, reasonable price ($99/night, taxes&breakfast included). So think twice before going to this hotel.

Room Tip: #495 is actually not bad

All the complaints about construction were because the resort suffered from an earthquake last fall and they were trying to rebuild as hastily as possible. It was lovely and quiet for our stay in April, we had a great room which was perfectly clean with flowers placed in the bathroom and bedroom fresh every day. Air conditioning and everything worked and when the water went out they had it up and running again in 40 minutes. The food was good and had variety, The staff were friendly and excellent. The pool bar was GREAT and we spent much of our time here! You are brought fruity 'welcome drinks' when you arrive and with the all inclusive you can spend as much time at the pool or beach as you like. I know our group had a fantastic time and the resort went over and above to make sure we all had a fantastic stay. Thank you to the owners Louise and her husband. Wonderful trip!

Good clean rooms, Iguanas every where, nice beach, will be good when the store is back open almost repaired from the earthquake. Nice pool could use a little more shade areas for mid day sun. Food was varied and good. Lots of things to do surf, horse back, paddle board, kayak and tours offered daily.

Excellent venue. Great beach. Great pool and bar. Excellent food. The whole resort suffered from an earthquake last September and had many reconstruction to do. The result is fantastic !
Although it was very hot (37 degrees) and humid, the air conditionner in the room worked perfectly. Wild horses come to the beach every day. Awesome !

Room Tip: Rooms closer to beach are the best !
