My wife, 8 month old daughter and I stayed here for a week in July. The property is wonderfully laid out with the rooms facing a small freshwater swimming pool. Beyond the pool is a garden, shaded with palms and mango trees where chaise lounges and hammocks are set up each morning. And beyond that is the beach! Phyllis was welcoming and accommodating, arranging taxis whenever we needed them and giving us little tips that made vacationing with a baby more enjoyable.
We loved:
-having the beach, pool and garden all RIGHT outside our door
-the pescaderia (fish store) and market store only a block away
-the local experience and expertise that Phyllis shared with us
-a full kitchen where we could cook our meals
-a pack 'n play (crib) for our daughter set up and ready before we arrived
We could have done without:
-the neighborhood roosters crowing at 3am (but what can you do? haha)

We stayed in the deluxe room (with ac and more amenities) the first 2 nights and room 2 the last night. We did not mind having to move to a room with less amenities the last night, due to a previous booking, because we found the location and owners so very kind and helpful. They made sure we got to our bus stop the next day when I thought we wouldn't make it. We were there for the 4th of July and even were able to celebrate with the other guests! I would recommend it and I would love to go back again soon. The sound of the surf is so relaxing.

Room Tip: Deluxe room has AC if you need that to beat the heat.

My daughter and I settled in. We were greeted by the owner, Phyllis. Phyllis is a concierge extraordinaire. Everything available for a true vacation. Beach is always in view and earshot. No better way to sleep, nap in a hammock, take a quiet walk on beach, etc. The kitchen is a perfect size to cook your own food, with a bodega and fish store as your neighbors. Town is accessible by a stroll, and choices of eateries are plentiful. Planning my get away for 2019.

The peaceful sound of the waves at night rolling onto shore and the soft tinkle of shells coral and stones as they wash back to the sea.
Bill and Phyllis make you feel right at home. The staff really takes good care of this quaint and peaceful place. The cool dipping pool in the court yard is refreshing in the afternoon and late evening. Wonderful morning runs at lower tide on the soft wet sand stopping to playi in the waves along the way. Walking to town along the beach to meet family for breakfast at The Sheriff Rustic and watch the grandsons learn to surf..
Im already planning my next trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are cute one bedroom apartments one has air conditioning. The ceiling fan was just right and quiet so I could hear the ocean.

My husband and I stayed at the Fenix Hotel from May 30 to June 8 2018. We stayed in room # 1.
The fans keep the room just right for sleeping at night or even for that lovely afternoon nap ! The room is comfortable and well equipped. If we needed something we just asked Phyllis and she quite often had what we needed or knew where to get it. Phyllis was a wonderful help arranging any tour or day trip we wanted and had great suggestions of things to do or places to go. The room has large windows that are screened and the sound of the surf is truly relaxing. Yes the howler monkeys get up earlier than we do but after the first initial "what was that" moment we found the sound as wonderful as the surf. The sounds of the animals, birds and surf were the best, we would wake up and then roll over and be lulled back to sleep with a smile on our faces.
I can't say enough of how wonderful it is to have the beach at your door step. The shaded palm tree area between your door and the beach has plenty of beach chairs and hammocks. This area is kept perfectly clean and manicured. The surf is great to play in and the water is warm and the beach stretches invitingly in both directions. The hotel has a great outside shower to rinse the sand and salt water off just as you come off the beach. The little pool in the center of the patio is a refreshing place for a dip or a great place to hang your feet in and visit with others.
We walked into town most every night for dinner strolling down the beach for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Lots of restaurants to choose from. We mostly took a taxi back from dinner and paid 1000 colons for the taxi. We did also walked back at night and it was perfectly fine, it is very dark make sure to take a flash light.
We choose the Fenix Hotel for a relaxing holiday away from hustle & bustle, where we could kick back and not worry about anything and we were richly awarded with just that. The Fenix is clean, comfortable and down to earth and is nestled perfectly in the slice of tropical paradise where it sits. Relax, enjoy and soak up Costa Rica !
