Well the title says it all. I am travelling to Costa Rica on my own (F 29) in October 2019 and spent ages trying to find the most affordable single rooms for my trip because I don’t want to stay in dorms. I booked a room at Oasis months in advance and they just emailed me telling me I had to cancel my booking because the room was not available anymore. I asked why and they wouldn’t answer and told me that “luckily they told me enough in advance that it allows me to look for another room”. They finally told me why after asking again and said the room got double booked on another site. Gotta find somewhere else now I guess. Such a waste of my time.
Hola a todos, Hello travellers worldwide!! Es necesario que compartamos con vosotros la pesadilla que vivimos en este Hostel. We need to share our bad bad experience in this hostel. We lived the worse nightmare in this hostel. Photos online have nothing to do with reality. All access to the beach with no plants or flowers at all, all furniture ruined and very old, lots of tents right in front of our "private" bungalow and BIG BIG isolation problems so that many bugs can come in too easily, it's like sleeping outdoors: mosquitos, cockroaches and a huge rat inside our room that ate our fruit and pooped the bed and windows and decided to stay on the roof of our room. We informed the manager and the only solution he gave us was putting some poison for the next day. We refused to sleep with such a rat on our heads and decided to leave the hostel and he didn't want to give us our money back. We foud ourselves looking for a new place at 23h00. Oasis Beach Front, What a nightmare!!!!! Thanks a lot Tom...
Where to start. I spent 6 weeks at this hostel whilst volunteering at the Jaguar Rescue Centre a few kilometres away. I stayed in the dorm room for the duration of my stay and rented a bicycle to commute to the Centre, all for a very reasonable price. Having checked out all of the other hostels in the local area, this was just so far above the rest, it didn’t even compare. Oasis became much more than a place to sleep at night, it was like a home for me. The owners Tom and Hadas became my friends, and I loved their friendly, relaxed nature. The hostel itself was comfortable, chilled out, and very clean. I loved the outdoor kitchen (which is really well equipped) and shower, which made me feel free. It was in a great location, close enough to town to access the beach, bar and restaurants, but far enough away to avoid noise, and feel immersed in the jungle. The beautiful trees were home to lots of animals, from howler monkeys most days, to a sloth mother and her baby one day! The hostel attracts lovely people, and consequently I made some amazing friends for life. There are two resident dogs and a cat at the hostel, who brightened up my days and added even more personality to the hostel (Layla, I love you!) I will definitely return to Oasis hostel one day. It will remain with me for the rest of my life. Tom, Hadas, Layla, Cooper and Cookie, I miss you all! Lots of love, Zoe.
We had agreat stay at Oasis. It has a chill vibe, right on the beach, a few minute walk to the restaurants. The hosts were very friendly too. I'd definitely stay there again.
As it's name suggests, Oasis really is a little paradise in the beautiful Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo. Great location, just a few minutes walk from town but yet in a peaceful location and right in front of the Caribbean Sea. You can walk the beautiful footpaths along the beach and through the forest to the town or to the surfers paradise of Cocles beach. Great Italian bakery and local restaurants on your doorstep. The hostel is ran by very friendly Tom and Haddas, they will make you feel very welcome and the place has a super chilled, friendly and homely vibe. Perfect for meeting fellow backpackers and travellers from all over the world, it has a good dorm room and two private rooms, with a couple of spaces for tents in the garden, by the beach. The facilities are basic and clean, the kitchen and communal area over looks the sea and you can chill in the hammocks in the pretty garden.
Overall great value, nice atmosphere, perfect location and good facilities if you're on a budget - all the elements of a fantastic hostel choice in Puerto Viejo!
My friend and I arrived to Oasis without having a reservation (it's a bit difficult to find). Eventhough it was nearly fully booked the owner was really friendly and helped us to find a solution. In the end one of us could stay in the last available dorm bed and the other one could stay in a tent in the backyard with a comfy mattress inside. The hostel has only one dorm and two double rooms, which creates a very cozy and familiar atmosphere. It's recommendable to book in advance! The community area includes a clean and well equipped kitchen, a large table and many hammocks. Its located a few minute walk to the center of town either along the street or along the beach. There is a great italian bakery just across the street. The price for this clean and homely place is unbeatable!
A great little hostel right on the beach in Puerto Viejo. It's got a breeze off the ocean and is cool when most of the rest of Puerto Viejo sweats. Thom and Ades (I probably spelled her name wrong and might have even spelled his wrong too) are super nice and run a great, clean place. It's right on the beach with hammocks, do I really have to say more than that? A couple of minutes down the beach and there are a few swimming pool sized holes in the reef for soaking the tired muscles in after a long day wandering through the nearby Cahuita National Park. The same trail along the beach after a ten minute walk leads to the public swimming and surfers beach, Cocles.
