We went for dinner a couple of nights ago, DEC/30th. The place is a quaint Caribbean beach house in the middle of a well manicured lawn, it's really something!

The beach is not necessarily the kind of place you associate with beef (it's more of a fresh seafood setting, I guess), but the food... OOOOH MAN, the food!! We ordered a mixed grill for two. The chicken was juicy and tender, the beef was perfect in taste and term, the pork was very nicely done, and the Argentinian chorizos were superb!

This place is HIGHLY recommended if you're looking for a place to eat in Puerto Viejo.

Thank Andrés B

After hearing about this place for a long time, we (two couples) decided to check it out. The place is really charming, exudes the feel of a little cafe someone else in the world. The bread and carrot puree spread were delicious, the wine selection and prices are fair, the service is good.
We ordered as a group, and because we had heard about huge portions, we shared the grill combo. Plenty of food, A LOT of food (meat) with chicken, sausage, more sausage, beef, pork. Comes with a shareable salad, kind of lacking, but fresh. We also ordered a side dish of tomato and guacamole, but it never came. We ordered the beef medium rare. It was closer to medium, just barely a bit of pink. The rest were also overcooked, the sausage was actually crunchy to bite, the pork tough, and the chicken too dry.
Because we care, and only because we wanted to be helpful, we told the waiter. Who in turn went and got the two owners, very nice people who obviously wanted to make us happy by offering us more food. We really were full having loaded up on the delicious bread (and wine), but we wanted them to know the meat was really too done. Instead of accepting that, they tried and tried to convince us that meat needed to be cooked as such to kill the parasites... now I don't know about you, but 1) I've cooked a few chickens in my day, and 2) you really never want to hear that your food has parasites... sure you might know it on some level, but having it sitting there in front of you is not really the time for this information.

Can't understand how others could have raved about this place. My steak and my husband's ribs were both rather tough, and my steak was a bit overcooked too. Unfortunately, I let the waiter convince me to order the Argentinian grilled steak instead of the tenderloin -- probably a big mistake, since surely the tenderloin would have been far more tender. Don't make my mistake! Worst part is that they charge rather high prices for what was really substandard dinners. The salad was kind of feeble too. Only good part was the french fries, which were crispy, delicious and well seasoned and the little slices of toast they give you with pureed carrot sauce instead of butter, which we enjoyed. Most everything on the menu was $24 to $30 -- or more. In Cost Rica, $28 for a tough steak is NOT a bargain. We had far better steak for half the price at Pura Gula just down the road.

Wow what a fantastic place. We stumbled across this hidden restaurant by pure chance and so pleased we did. The food was fantastic and possibly the best we tasted our trip to Costa Rica and is definitely worth a visit!

Very hidden, small and simple restaurant serving fine Argentinean specialties. Kind and attentive service. The guest is still a king. The food was so excellent, that returned once more before leaving Pueto Viejo. Mägi + Rolf
