The lodge is in such a perfect location, nestled on the edge of the beach with the forest surrounding it. Victor was such an amazing host for the 4 of us. We had a really special lunch and swim in a waterfall and they made so much effort taking everything and setting it up - we really felt like royalty! We stayed in the top lodge rooms, very spacious with ceiling fans to keep you cool - although there are only mosquito screens and not windows so we never felt stuffy. We went on a night nature walk and the next morning kayaking was amazing in the creek - spotted lots of crocodiles!!
Such a memorable place we all really fell in love with :)

Dear brightonbeachboy,

It is so satisfying leaning that you all fell in love with Playa Cativo Lodge, definitely our greatest reward. One of the things that we just love to do... is to make each stay the most memorable one for a life-time and that every single guest feels unique and special like royalty.
Due to the perfect location of the Lodge, surrounding nature and infrastructure, breeze is always running smoothly through the rooms and it just makes it feel so relaxing and connected to nature! We are also very happy that you went on our Night Walk Tour and the Mangrove Kayaking Tour, these two are definitely a must-do. It’s amazing how the rain-forest magically turns into a totally different world at night, isn’t it?

Hope to see you all again in the future!

Sometimes, when travelling, one arrives in a place where, from the first second, everything fits perfectly. Playa Cavito Lodge is one of these rare places. During our stay we never had the feeling that something did not fit in this perfect picture. The rooms, the food, the activities, all were at any moment perfect. Moreover the staff is so warm, welcoming, enthusiastic and helpful, that we never had the impression to be in a hotel, we had the feeling staying at a friend’s house. Just ask what you want, and someone will take care of it with enthusiasm. Playa Cavito is definitely not a cheap place to stay, but it is worth every cent you spend. We hope to come again one day.

We can not recommend Playa Cativo highly enough! My family and I enjoyed four wonderful nights in this beautiful lodge. The environment is simply exquisite - picturesque and rejuvenating. We awoke each morning to the sounds of howler monkeys, an array of birds, and the crashing of the waves. But even more than the spectacular surroundings, the incredible staff is in a category all their own! They graciously welcome each of the guests by name, accommodated our every need, and went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. The kitchen turned out one amazing meal after the next, Victor created the most delicious drinks, the servers were professional, sweet, and attentive, and the guides made our experiences as memorable as possible. This was our favorite vacation spot and will not be forgotten! Thank you so much Playa Cativo!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful!

Dear Mr. Michael L

Thank you for this encouraging review and really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, such an honor to be part of your favorite spots!

We are glad that you had the opportunity to see many of the birds and mammals that live around these gorgeous tropical gardens. We are blessed to be surrounded by Cativo´s Private Protected Nature Reserve and the Piedras Blancas National Park, where wildlife and nature is abundant, it just makes is extremely easy to spot wildlife in every direction you turn, specially from the comfort of the rooms.

We appreciate your comments regarding the meals that are prepared with lots of detail, love and using most of what we produce from our organic farm, also for recognizing Victor´s art to make special drinks and our amazing staff for the service we enjoy providing.

Best wishes,
Cesar Vargas

For anyone who has wanted to throw it all away and live in the wilderness, but isn't brave enough to actually go through with it, Playa Cativo is the place for you. It is the most luxurious, most fantastic version of living in the jungle that you could ever imagine. When booking our family vacation to Costa Rica for Christmas break this year, I needed to work hard to convince my sometimes nervous wife to just "trust me" about Playa Cativo, and she has thanked me numerous times for convincing her to do so. Everything from the boat ride to the hotel, to the welcome we received from half a dozen porters and Alan, the general manager, when we arrived at the shores of Playa Cativo, to the truly luxurious rooms which are completely open to the environment all day and screened in at night, to the friendly "welcome to our home service" from Victor and others, to the fantastic meals eaten barefoot in the beautiful covered outdoor dining room, to the incredible mangrove, waterfall, farm and nightlife jungle tours led by Hera, to the snorkeling and dolphin watching in the Gulfo Dulce, everything at Playa Cativo surpassed expectations. Each morning began as the sun rose and the forest came alive - birds chirping, howler monkeys howling, waves crashing. It was the most unique and wonderful way for 4 New York City dwellers to start our day. Then, the day was ours to craft. We usually started with breakfast followed by one of the guided tours or activities organized for us by the hotel staff, then lunch and relaxation by the pool. Sometimes we went on a hike in the neighboring park during the afternoon, and always ended the day with a cocktail and game with our sons, followed by a beautiful dinner prepared and served with great care, as if you were back home for the holidays. We spent four days and nights at Playa Cativo and never saw anyone other than the other guests of the hotel and the hotel staff - we felt further removed from civilization than we have ever felt before - and didn't miss it for even a second! I can't recommend Playa Cativo highly enough. It is a truly special place and an experience that is beyond compare. We feel truly blessed to have been able to spend time there.

Playa Cativo is just fabulous. From being picked up in Puerto Jimenez, the beautiful sunset crossing, to our greeting on the beach, the ambience was perfect. We could do as much or as little as we liked. Our gorgeous room overlooking the sea was spotless and so comfortable but there was so much to see and do. We had an early morning bird watching walk with the delightful Bruce, a night hike and the brilliant mangrove river kayaking trip with Geraldo both of which were just awesome. All the staff were so knowledgeable, so keen to show us everything and disappointed when certain wildlife didn't turn up. But there was so much one snake not being seen made no difference. Koatis, agoutis, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys were a regular presence as well as dozens of other bird species, all identified by Bruce, Geraldo and the others. Victor, the chef (and fisherman) produced superb meals of high quality. A huge thank you to Allen and ALL the staff. Highly recommended, just beautiful!
