“looks nice from the outside, old on the inside”

Nice casitas but in urgent need of update. Man this interior is old fashioned. Though we enjoyed the terras! while sitting outside troops of monkeys passed by and all kind of animal came by to take a look while the are often hidden away in the National Park due to the huge amount of tourists. Good pools.

While the staff is very accommodating and friendly - the rooms are very dated, institutional looking and lack electric outlets from this century! We changed hotels after one night. We felt that the price, lack of cleanliness and baseline convenience far out weighed the lovely grounds and well - meaning staff.

We stayed at this hotel as part of an organized independent tour. It looks quite charming from the outside and has quite sprawling grounds and a decent pool. The rooms are fairly small and basic and the bed was pretty gutless. The best aspect is that there was air-conditioning, which wasn't featured in most of the [basic] hotels we stayed at in Costa Rica. The reception was a bit of a trek from our room up and down many steps and down the road, which is a bit of a pain with luggage and not suitable at all for persons with disabilities or with strollers. There were several large ants in our room which was a bit disturbing. There was a yapping dog downstairs in another unit. There was a TV, but the signal was mostly snow. The bathroom was very basic. When we asked for pool towels, they didn't have any. One real bonus is that the hotel is right across the road from El Avion restaurant where we ate 3 times! It has stunning views, fun cocktails and good food. Just up the road is a wildlife center where they offer excellent night tours where you can see lots of frogs, spiders, snakes, etc. It's a $4 taxi ride to the public beach/national park from the hotel.

We stayed here last week - man o man, we were so sorry we chose this one.
It deserves to be categorized as a $50/night motel, instead of a $200/night hotel.

As we parked and walked into the registration area - our kids remarked that the hotel was not very impressive. We made a mistake, we should have checked the room and that might have coaxed us to negotiate ourselves out from this one. We almost wanted to leave after the first night, but that would throw our plans astray and we decided not to.

- The thin linens and comforters smelled. All through the night it felt that there were bugs crawling over us.
- The beds did not have a headboard
- The windows had nets but they were ripped. They were conveniently left open to air the room when we checked in and there mosquitoes and bugs that had gotten in.
- The rooms need a serious remodel - the tiles are old style
- Bathrooms need a remodel too, but the hot water was flowing and everything worked good
- The kitchen was a dump and we didn't feel like using it. Only bare minimum amenities are provided.
- The security door knobs and latches were rusted and we had to wash our hands every time we touched them
- The breakfast package was a rip-off @ Del Negro - with a soup-nazi type waiter who was not happy with anything. Not worth the $8/person that was added to the room rate.
- Just a tiny dinky TV
- No jacuzzi around the pool. Our kids were not too thrilled with the pool and stayed away from it.
- Extensive hotel campus - but you have to walk through steps - not an easy trail. This is *NOT* handicap friendly and even for us it was a pain to navigate through the steps.
- No SUNSET view that we could see (they prided themselves for the best sunset views
- We ordered room service dinner from the restaurant that came in after an hour and the food was already cold. We were so hungry we just gobbled it up without complaints.
- We were so annoyed with the room rate - we ended up not taking the hotel packages but negotiated the mangrove tour from the company itself - almost 50% off what the hotel offered us
- We did get the Canopy zipline tour, managed to negotiate $15 off per person from the hotel. The registration desk was friendly though.

Positives
- Loved the hot water shower
- The hotel campus is extensive but the zillion steps deterred us from exploring it
- Huge mango tree
- Decent wildlife

My room was small and uncomfortable. The bed was hard and needs replacement along with the thread bare linens. The tile on the floor of the room was stained. There is no place to sit inside except the bed.

The door of the room had a hole a couple inches in size that you could see through. It did not make me feel secure. The bathroom was tiny.

The grounds of the hotel are lush and well maintained. It is a shame that the rooms were not paid such careful attention.

Many of the rooms are near the busy road leading to the park and you can hear road noise well into the evening.

If you decide to walk to Manuel Antonio National Park, keep in mind that you will have a steep hill to climb on the way back. The walk is about thirty minutes.
