Pierre was a wonderful host. He will either make arrangements for you to get to Quepos by car from the airport outside of San José or he will meet you in downtown Quepos if you are coming by car to point out some of the highlights of the town and lead you to the chalets, 3 kilometers up in the hills above Quepos. There are three well equipped chalets or cabins, two being sufficient and one is luxurious. All three are surrounded by forest and you are not aware of the other two cabins when you are in yours. In each is a simple but nice bathroom with shower, toilet and sink and a very well equipped kitchen with large refrigerator and freezer, gas oven and burners, pots and pans, utensils, dishes, coffee pot and even a blender for making cane sugar based alcohol fruit smoothies, mmmm…. My cabin did not have a microwave but I understand that that is in the works. Please be aware that in Costa Rica, most rental apartments do not supply provisions such as oil and vinegar, although there was salt, pepper and sugar. Furniture included a large bed with a very comfortable mattress, desk and chair and armchair. Each chalet/cabin is surrounded on 2 to 3 sides with a porch on which there is a dining table and chairs, two armchairs and coffee table. There is a ceiling fan on the porch as well as in the cabin. Please note that all windows and doors have screens, so there is no fear of being bitten by mosquitoes. Of course all linens are provided and the cabins are very clean. If you don’t have a car, there is a public bus in to and out of Quepos that stops at the entrance to the property every 45 minutes although there is a fairly steep 250 meter climb up to or down from the cabins. If you want to get away from the “city” and beach, the chalet/cabins are ideal. The only noises you hear are the birds and the insects as the cabins are surrounded by plants and trees and gardens, although there is the occasional motorcycle that zooms by on the road below. As a dog lover, I appreciated the daily visits of Pierre’s three boxers. My week there went by in a flash and I totally enjoyed staying there.
