When my husband and I were researching places to stay for our Alaska trip, we found out about this wonderful Bed and Breakfast through the Kenai Chamber of Commerce. So we emailed back and forth a few times several months before our big trip to get vacancy and room info.
The Grouchy Old Woman is neither old nor grouchy, but extremely accomodating. When we made our reservation, she gave us the great advice to pick up a Milepost book. We did, and it was invaluable in our rental car Alaska journey.
This B&B is north of Kenai at about mile 30 after turning off onto the Kenai Spur Highway on beautiful, quiet Daniel's Lake. Our best moose pictures were on this part of the Kenai Peninsula. Just a little further up the road from the B&B is the Captain Cook Recreation Area that the owner recommended for a nice walk on the beach and a splendid view across the Cook Inlet at Mt. Redoubt volcano. East Foreland Lighthouse Reserve is also just down the road.
The bed was very comfy, and we had the whole downstairs with a little kitchen. The pricing was the most reasonable for a terrific place to stay that we found on our trip. The Grouchy Old Woman also showed us around her incredible garden. She went way above what we would have expected to work breakfast into our schedule. She has led an incredible life, and her wonderful place has so many treasures, we wish that we had been able to stay longer to see them all.
