Very comfortable, attractive and clean interior. The wait staff was very friendly, well-trained and attentive. Impressively so. The menu offers the usual, standard American fare. As vegetarians, we would have liked some choices, but there was almost nothing for us. We hope that this restaurant will in future take into account that many people are eating plant-based whole foods for the sake of 1) personal health 2) environmental health and 3) the well-being of animals.

I’ve been a customer for years, however the service has been getting worse and tonight we sat in there for 15 minutes, no one ever came over to wait on us. I could understand if they were busy but there was only 6 tables taken. Our waitress was suppose to be Siera but we didn’t get to meet her. We left and went to another restaurant with much better service.
With it being the start of the season one would think the service would be better..

I always try to eat here when in Palmer. Good, standard "diner food," reasonably priced and of good quality. Their selection of desserts, especially pies, is excellent. And they make a great breakfast, served all day!

We had breakfast here on our stay in Palmer and our guys enjoyed the portions. The hot cakes are Huge and will fill a man up! The reindeer sausage is delicious and we were absolutely stuffed when we left! This is really a great value for the price! It held us over until supper that evening! It is a diner& I recognized some of the same waitresses from 4 years ago. They were friendly and service was quick!

The Open Café is located in the same building as the Valley Hotel in downtown Palmer. Though we did not stay at the hotel, we did have two very good meals at the Open Café: one at the Café and the other in the Lounge (same menu as the Café)where you can also have a glass of wine or beer. The Café is open 24/7 year round. The first night we stopped here for burgers after a day's worth of hiking. There is quite a menu to review - and we found it entertaining to read too! We each ordered the cheeseburger with mushrooms (about $12.50/burger) ; plus you get a choice of sides - we ordered the fries. The meal came to the table hot and the amount served was very ample - and definitely tasty. Though we did not have dessert, we were intrigued by the fireweed ice cream - and our thoughtful server brought us a taste after we had finished dinner. We enjoyed the meal so much we came back the next night. On this second evening, we went into the Lounge so we could have a glass of wine with dinner. We were hankering for a pizza so we ordered a medium Tower pizza (about $23). It came loaded with all kinds of goodies on it. Delicious! The place was hopping with lots of local folks on both evenings - always a good sign for travelers interested in a good meal.
