“It was ok for the money we paid”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2012

Our room in this hostel was very spacious, but not too clean. For the money we paid it was ok, nothing special. The woman at the reception was very friendly and she can arrange transport from Lao Cai train station that drops you off in front of the hostel.

We stayed at this hostel for 2 nights when we arrived in Sapa. Large room had TV and hot shower. Wifi was poor in room but good downstairs. Washing facility was poor and we ended up doing most of it, including the drying ourselves. But when you take it all in to acount the price of $10 was very good value. NO breakfast included.

Room Tip: Stay at rear of property as too noisy at front

We stayed one night at this hostel. We had a little trouble finding it, and based off of business cards and signs in the lobby, I think it used to be called The Prince Hotel. Maybe that would've helped us. If you take the bus/minivan for 60,000d per person, then you walk downhill past a big grassy square from where they drop you off. You go through one intersection with another street and see the hostel on the left. It's a little difficult to pick out and has Sapa Hostel on the window. We were given really crazy directions from the bus driver and walked uphill for a long while!

Our room was clean and large, with one of those strange windows that looks out into a hallway that you encounter in SE Asia. The people are friendly and helpful with okay English that's enough to get by on. We rented a motobike from them for only $6 USD for automatic, $5 for manual, and had a lot of fun riding around the mountains on our own.

My complaint is with the smokey smell in the room. The bathroom is open to the hallway and to another guest room's bathroom because of some high up wall cutouts. I think the guest next door was smoking, and the staff smoke downstairs in the lobby with friends, which traveled up to our room on the second floor. Also, it was pretty cold in March, but not too bad. Shower water is hot!

Okay place to stay for one night, but not any longer than that for me because of all the secondhand smoke.

this place was great. my partner and i stayed for 8 nights over christmas for about $10 a night. large, clean and quiet double ensuite room. the couple who own this hostel were so helpful, they literally could not do more to make our stay more enjoyable, really nice people.
for this price, we think its difficult to overlook Sapa Hostel. we will be back

Room Tip: balcony rooms overlook the street

The family was very hospitable. I had know complaints to speak of considering the cost. The value for dollar here was average. They could definately use some new towels that seemed soiled but were probly clean no less. In December it can be a bit chilly and there is no heat in the hotel. An good stay.

Room Tip: I am not sure there is any one room better then the others.

We had a great time staying here. The rooms are good value given the price, with T.V, Hot water, WI-FI and a very comfortable bed. It could get quite cold at night but an extra blanket was provided on request, also had electric blankets available and a small heater could be rented for $2, we found it fine with the extra blanket. The family who own the place are very honest and genuinely nice people. They are not pushy with tours and you can expect to be invited to eat delicious home-made food with them all washed down with "Happy Water" made by the owners father. A great deal, will return for sure.

Room Tip: Try and get as far away from the stairs as possible

This is a basic hotel. Don't expect to stay in a super deluxe hotel. It's rather old but the prices are also low. So it's definitely worth the money.
The rooms are very moisture, but that's because of the fog in Sapa.

The family that runs this hotel is very nice, with a very funny little kid. You can get breakfast, which is not that spectacular, but still OK.

It's a very quiet and friendly hotel.
