“Lovely lunch with my mum at Dear Coasties”

There was quite a buzz when Dear Coasties was due to open and it was worth the wait. Very good service, with water brought to your table while you are waiting. Very important in the warmer months especially. Plenty of staff on high alert to make sure tables are cleared, customers are seated etc and all staff are friendly and polite which is quite rare. The menu has a few different items which is refreshing and the cabinet food is well presented and looks very appetising. Great coffee and the Seafood Risotto I had was the ultimate comfort food. My only gripe would be wanting to see more smaller savoury items in the cabinet for when I am in a hurry. Popular place and I usually aim to go around 11am or after 1 to avoid the rush and have a better chance of securing a table. They have gluten and dairy free options too.
Sorry.... Tried to click on the ratings section but it doesn't work for me. 4/5 for Service, 4/5 for food and 3/5 for value.

Thank Sonya Y

Easy to see why dear coasties is doing so well. Despite the proliferation of cafes in orewa, most are just not that good - this is easily in the top 3 with ollivers and emideli, probably top 2. A young, enthusiastic staff are working their butts off to provide consistently good service, great coffee that is flavoursome without being bitter, and well presented, tasty food.
Tip: gets REALLY busy so book if you want to be sure of a table or get in early. Has loyalty card rewards.
Coffee is in lovely-to-hold mugs in generous sizes. Food is a hit and beautifully presented - slightly pricey but worth it on cooked food. Has 'auckland' stuff like paleo bites and turmeric, charcoal and kale lattes if you're that way inclined (sadly no macha latte yet - soon please!). Cabinet stuff is generally great although the almond croissants and scones are repeatedly and disappointingly dry, so 4 stars at present until these are refined.A great place, tucked behind the main boulevard near paper plus and bollywood. Loads of parking on the street outside or in nearby countdown and new world car parks.Deserves to do well and already has established loyal, local customer base.

My partner and I went here for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. We were expecting the service to be slow as they were packed but our order was taken pretty quickly and our drinks and then food arrived very promptly. My partner had the burger and fries (they came with a very good aioli) and I had the potato rosti with mushrooms, lentils and eggs. Both delicious, very generous portions (especially my rosti - it was enormous) and the eggs were perfectly cooked. We washed them down with a couple of six barrel sodas and took two sweet treats from the cabinet to go - a ginger crunch and a chocolate brownie - both extremely good. A wide menu and cabinet food to choose from and lots of sweet goodies too, with vegetarian, vegan and gf options. We're very much looking forward to going back and trying some of the other options available too. Really nice atmosphere - bright, lively and inviting, and without being overwhelmingly noisy like some places. Staff all friendly and efficient. A great addition to the coast!

Good value food Brunch is the style.
Manchego cheese features but turns out to be filings (ok it is expensive cheese). The usual Eggs Bene with other offerings as well. Mains around $20 at present. No Easter surcharge. Friendly prompt service. Excellent beverage selection. Family feel.

Had several visits, mainly for brunch food. Loved the 'mushroom hunter'. Coffee was great too. Place is always well patronised. And free Wifi.
