The B&B was most attractive and in a wonderful location. However, we would not have booked had we realised that we would have to share a bathroom and wake up to find someone sleeping on the couch right outside our room. It seems ludicrous that accommodation of this calibre expects its guests to share a bathroom and not mention it on your website.

'far above your standard Bed and Breakfast' is the boast on their website, but to be honest, if what you need is a normal B&B, go elsewhere. Robe Lake is clearly set up as a lodge for larger parties, and I'm sure if that is what you need, then the stunning location and facilities will be perfect. But as a B&B for singles/couples, the minimal facilities in the rooms (heating not working - and for once on this trip we needed it), the shared bathrooms (our fairly basic bathroom was shared between four rooms, and also doubled as the staff laundry), lack of any locks on the bedrooms, and paltry breakfast (on our final morning we actually drove into Valdez so we could have a decent breakfast) would not encourage us to return. No idea whether the owners or staff are friendly or helpful - we never set eyes on anyone other than fellow guests. If they want to use up slack 'lodge' time as a B&B, they really need to get their act together.

The lodge is located overlooking Robe Lake in a beautiful scenic setting. I would have given 5 stars, but my husband and spent a sleepless night in room #1 on the ground floor, due to a loud buzzing sound which repeated about every 15 minutes. I complained to the owner, and she thought we must be light sleepers. We are not. The sound was very loud, and I hope that they have corrected it. The room was very very small with a double bed and no where to put your clothes, except for some hooks on the wall. I do not advise staying there if you are given this room. The owner moved us to a small (very, very small) cabin (The Bear cabin), and it was a huge improvement since it was quiet, even though there's not much room for suitcases. However, if you stayed in the rooms upstairs or at the back of the ground floor, the rooms are comfortable, and the upstairs rooms have a nice sitting area overlooking the main floor. The rest of the lodge was lovely, and we enjoyed making our own toasted bagels and coffee. The view from the front deck is spectacular, and in the early morning it was wonderful to sit there in silence, listening to the sounds of the wildlife. I highly recommend staying at the lodge, but be forewarned, avoid the tiny rooms on the front of the ground floor. If you have to stay in one, make sure the buzzing sound has been repaired.

Room Tip: Avoid the downstairs front rooms. They are tiny and there is little room to move.

We rented 3 rooms for 2 nights this summer. We ended both nights in the hot tub, which had the most amazing view of the lake and mountains. The two rooms upstairs were a comfortable size and shared a bath. The room downstairs was small and shared a bath with 3 other rooms. We almost never saw the other couples downstairs, so sharing a bathroom worked out fine. The self check-in and continental breakfast worked out fine for us. If you don't mind sharing bathrooms or a small bedroom and love lake/mountain views, this is the perfect place!

Wow..super views and awesome accomodations at this authentic Alaskan Log Lodge. So much fun visiting with other guests at the lodge. The Continental breakfast was awesome..best muffins I ever had. Fruit and cereal..toast. Coffee tea juice..all you could want. The lodge also has cabins on the grounds to stay in. We got a peak inside one of those too and it is so cute and inviting. Definitely stay here if ever in Valdez. Just a short ride to town..such a cool place to stay. I call it 5 star!
