“OK place for the money”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

Very basic property, small rooms with few amenities. However if you are looking for a clean room with a comfy bed, this is the place to be. Fifty dollars a night can hardly be found any more, so if you are on a budget, this is not a bad place to stay.

We started staying at the little Daisy about 5 years ago when our daughter was in a boarding school in West Sedona . We live in Phoenix and love Sedona,Jerome, Cottonwood and the Page Springs Winery and The Little Daisy is centered nearby to all. I work at a 4 Diamond Hotel in Scottsdale and have stayed in many others. Although this great little motel doesn't claim to be that and if you want that, then do not stay there, it is by far the best in it's class in the area. So the rooms are dated but they are clean, everything works, beds are comfy, the owners and staff are wonderful, they allow pets, and you get a great deal for the money!
If you can accept The Little Daisy for what she is, leave your high horse at home, and just be chill, then let The Little Daisy do her thing and enjoy this beautiful part of Arizona.

We stayed her two nights and thought it was very nice. It is a bit old but it is kept clean. We went on the train through the verde canyon which was very cool. The little daisy was a great place to come home to.

First off, I have to say that this is our third time staying at the Little Daisy Motel over a weekend and it will be the last. I kept wanting to like the place, because the owners seem nice and it's a cute small town motel, but the rooms leave a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness, truly NON-smoking accommodations, and appropriate maintenance. Each time we have stayed there, we have been very clear to request non-smoking rooms,. The first time we stayed there, they had us booked into one room the first night and a different room the second. The first time we stayed there just one night and they put us in a room in the front (facing the street); although it got street noise, it was acceptably clean. The second time we stayed we had booked two nights and the first night, they put us in a room in the back that was revolting. The walls and ceiling were yellowed from years of it having been a room for smokers. Burn marks were evident in the carpet and on the bathroom sink counter and linoleum floor. It was the only room they had, and my partner (who can sleep anywhere) figured we'd be fine for the night, but I ended up having to sleep out in the cab of our truck that whole night because the reek of past cigarettes gave me a terrible headache. When I told the owner, she said that she is a smoker so she had no idea the room smelled like smoke; to make up for my having to sleep in the truck, the second night, for no extra charge, they put us in a separate house that they normally rent out to families and groups. The house was clean and although there was one cigarette scorch mark on the bathroom sink, the place did not smell like cigarettes and I was very pleased. We spent a very restful day in that back house. This last time we stayed, just a week ago, they put us in a room on the opposite side of the motel. Although the door to the room was clearly marked as "non-smoking," as soon as we walked in, I could tell someone had smoked in the room, but it was not so overpowering that it gave me a headache... it just was gross and made me mad that people can be so inconsiderate that they will smoke anywhere, even in a non-smoking room. The room had two queen beds and near one, there were scorch marks in the carpet and on the wall. I took the other bed since the smell was less on that side of the room. There was a small fridge in the room, which was handy as we had brought some drinks and snacks, but as soon as I turned it on, water started leaking out the bottom and had obviously done so before, as there was a stain on the wood shelf it was sitting on. My partner opened the clothes closet to hang some clothes but decided not to, commenting that it smelled like "baby diapers" in there. It's still very hot here in AZ, so we couldn't open the windows to air the room out; instead, I tried the AC unit, hoping that would help filter out the smell, but the window unit (which may have been an evaporative cooler) spewed a musty odor when I turned it on, so we had to keep it off and spent a very uncomfortable night with the windows open trying to get some air. We spent as little time in the room as possible that day and got some take-out Thai food, which I decided to eat in the parking lot because I wanted to taste the food not smell the smoke. However, ironically, as my partner and I tried to sit on the small stair to the room and eat off of a cooler we had brought with us, one by one, the other guests staying in the adjoining and opposite rooms stepped out into the parking lot to smoke. In fact, when we left the next day, we realized that every single person we had seen had been smoking! Considering this, we have thought of suggesting to the owners that they rename the place "Little Smoker's Motel" and advertise it specifically to smokers. Seriously. There are pet-friendly places for pet owners, so why not a motel just for smokers and the people who love them enough to be willing to be exposed to second-hand smoke? Needless to say, we will be staying elsewhere from now on.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere for the best room

This was the second stay at the Little Daisy. It is a well run, quiet, comfortable older motel. The management is friendly, efficient, and always available for information, suggestions, etc. Not only is the Little Daisy pet friendly, the managers have a dog and a cat, too, who often serve as greeters when you first enter the office. While the Little Daisy will never be in the same league as the Ritz, it is a great value for the money. If you are planning to stay in Sedona, stay here instead -- even after allowing for gas costs for the roughly 50-mile round trip, you'll still be $$$ ahead (the rates here are WAY cheaper than pretty much everything in Sedona), and the 25-minute drive back and forth is really relaxing and scenic.

I loved the Little Daisy. It's a great value for the price. Very clean. Comfy bed. Free Wi Fi. There is a kitchen with a small 4 burner stove and a regular frig, with a dinette set. In the motel office are awards for Best Hotel in Cottonwood for the past several years.

I would say it's "retro", but actually it appears that the it has been lovingly maintained since it was built, and still has original fixtures and furniture (new mattress, though!)

We are on a ten day road trip with our dog, visiting family in Arizona. The night before we got to the Little Daisy, we stayed at a "dog friendly" chain hotel in Winslow. At that hotel, our dog did not want to go in the room, it was so creepy. She wouldn't even eat in that room.

At Little Daisy, our dog relaxed and played and finally ate some food. We relaxed, too, and we all got a good night's sleep. There is definitely "good energy" at the Little Daisy and we look forward to staying there again.
