We held a family function at this venue as it appeared to have everything we would need: secluded space, great food, excellent facilities with enough space for everyone to wander around, child friendly amenities such as a pool and a jumping castle, while still being affordable!
To be honest, we did try it out and had some concerns, but the management persuaded to try the venue a second time and this time the food and service was much better. So we tried for a third time.... and held our function here.
We were a small group of around 40 adults and children and as such were able to secure the terrace, which is in a great position for a function, with some spectacular views. While the place has a small sound system in place, we brought our own which provided us with a much better experience, we felt. But then again, most folks do not have our music.
The food was excellent and several of our guests raved over the onion and goat cheese tartlets, though I was sadly let down by a comical series of events. Having filled my plate with 6 of the tartlets (greedy me), I looked around for a waiter to order a drink. Failing to see one at hand, I walked to the bar to order my drink and upon returning, discovered that my plate had been collected by a waiter! This is not unique to the location, but is actually a bad habit in South Africa, where good service is equated with the prompt removal of tablewear, regardless of the contents being finished!
The horseradish sauce was as good as usual, while the pap and tomato sauce was once again an instant hit with the children! The black forest cake was not quite as good as the firs time, but we knew that only because we had eaten there before. Our guests did not notice.
Our advice is: go and have a great time here! Do not worry about the distance, and avoid the Creme Brulee... These are just too hard for the kitchen to get right in summer.
