We stayed at Quarters on Avondale Road in for 1 week in December 2011, over the christmas period. The hotel is modern with a quaint vintage feel to it.

The staff are extremely helpful. The room feels luxurious, the bathroom and shower just perfect. Our room had a balcony with a view.

The room rate includes breakfast, alacarte. This is good since we were able to choose different options each day. On our last morning we chose to have breakfast in our room, out on the balcony. This was not a problem at all and the restaurant staff brought it up to our room within 20minutes.

Quarters on Avondale is very centrally located. Walking distance to Florida Road, a popular hotspot for Durban's night life. It is also a short drive to the Durban beachfront and the Moses Mabhida stadium where tourists can take the skycar to have the best views of Durban's coastline and city view.

The hotel is also close to the M4 highway, which can take you through to Durban North and Umhlanga.

I booked the hotel via www.booking.com where I paid excellent reduced rates per room per night, including breakfast.

Would definitaly recommend this hotel to those looking for quaint luxury while visiting Durban.

Quarters on Avondale is gorgeous - lovely rooms, even lovelier bathrooms, delicious breakfast and solid staff. The location is impeccable, so close to Florida road and other nearby restaurant areas. It's a shame, however, that the road noise travels straight through the big windows - I was traveling for business and there on a weekday, and the morning traffic is incredibly loud. Would stay here again but hope to find a quieter room.

Quarters on Avondale is a newer, sister hotel to Quarters on Florida, which is a short walk away. The two hotels are very similar -- but just be aware there are two with the same name, to avoid any confusion.
The hotel consists of some renovated traditional Durban residences (which means large covered verandahs to let in the breeze but keep out the sun). The renovation is very tastefully done, with soft cream tones throughout and comfortable furnishings in the rooms. The bathrooms are first class. The location is excellent, close to the Florida Rd area with its restaurants, bars, and entertainments. There is secure parking for guest vehicles. The hotel restaurant, named Jam, is absolutely first rate and I recommend it highly. The staff are friendly and helpful.
If you book, it may pay to try various hotel booking sites in addition to the hotel's own sites. I found huge variation in the prices quoted for the same room, with the price on the hotel site significantly higher than I was able to obtain elsewhere.
Overall, this is a really superb property and an excellent place to stay in Durban.

I've stayed at Quarters on Avondale multiple times, once in August-September 2009 for 45 days at a stretch. If you are a big fan of boutique properties, you'd notice this hotel driving down the Argyle and would want to stay there. The rooms are at par with the exterior and give you the kind of home feel. The service used be excellent and now it's good. (One of the reasons I stay elsewhere nowadays.) But for a boutique property lover it would still be an experience worth having.
